Cardinals vs. Astros, 3 pm CT, Fox. (Astros lead series 2-1)

White Sox vs. Angels, 6:30 pm CT, Fox. (White Sox lead series 3-1)

I could mention a certain other team that had a 3-1 lead in the LCS, um, about, say, two years ago, and looked nearly as dominant as the White Sox have so far this year.

But I think I won't.

Mike sent me this e-mail yesterday:

Went past the bleachers today, nearly all the concrete is gone. Was told they had to shore up the left field ivy wall, as it had begun to lean. The scoreboard looks to be held by a very tenuous lattice of steel, but of course that's all that ever did hold it.

With that, some photos from Saturday:

Top: Gate Q, or what is left of Gate Q; view looking north down Sheffield.

Bottom: looking up toward scoreboard and CF from Sheffield; view of ramp and back of LF steel structures, from Waveland.

Photos by David Sameshima

Finally, I didn't want anyone to think I was avoiding this, even though it was first posted last Tuesday -- the results of the 2nd Annual CBA Predictions Contest. As you can see, I didn't do very well.

Better luck for me AND the Cubs in 2006!

Discuss amongst yourselves.

I gave up...
on the Sox losing.  There is way too much in their favor besides their talent.  And because I gave up I hope they don't lose the ALCS because even though the Sox fans are not the nicest ever sometimes, it is really painful to lose.  So for their sake, I hope they don't have to go through that.

What am I talking about?  I am jealous of them and because I'm jealous I hope that they do suffer like we did, so they know how it feels.  But deep down inside, very deep, I want the Sox to win so we can get rid of all this crap that Chicago can never win.  All for the city, and only the city.

Here's the basic problem I have...
... I know that many Sox fans (and I exclude you, Dr. Crawdad, because I know you're not this way) will approach winning the pennant, if they do, in this way:

"WE WON AND THE CUBS SUCK!!!"

Now, if I were in the same position, the LAST thing I'd be thinking about is the White Sox.

See the difference?

by Al on Oct 16, 2005 3:27 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree...
I can just see the signs in the park during interleague play.  Plus, even if the Cubs won next year they would probably say, "We won first so the Cubs still suck."

Like I said, if they won I will be happy for Chicago and only for Chicago. I'm a Cub fan, so I will keep hoping.  Hoping for them to lose.

I agree
You are so right on there - if it were solely about the city then, fine, but you know it will not be...

Cards Screwed?
Can today's game be ump'd any worse by that homeplate umpire - I mean, don't get me wrong I do not mind seeing the Cards get screwed, but this has to be the worst called game in a long time...

On another note, isn't this just a Cubs' fans worst nightmare - the WS winner will probably be either the Cards, the 'Stros, or the White Sux? I am sick to my stomach...

9th Inning....
of the StL/Hou game reminded me a lot of the Cubs---man on 3rd, no out, and not scoring.  Looked all to familiar to me.

I thought when the playoffs started that a worse case scenario for the WS was Stros vs White Sox.  Unfortunately, looks like that is the way it could end up.  Makes me sick thinking about it.

Astros
Forced to make this choice, the Astros don't bother me too much at all.  How could you not love Tony LaRussa blowing his top this afternoon, followed by the great defense?  Awesome game -- looking forward to tomorrow.

Someone
needs to tell Tim McCarver that Fransisco Rodriguez doesn't throw a curve ball--it's a slider.  Sure, I know that there are some who think it's an academic difference, but he ought to at least acknowledge that he knows that K-Rod calls it a slider.

I amazed...
that the Angels haven't hurt anybody.  They are really not playing well.

White Sox Fans
WGN is at some bar.

Fan #1: "I don't want to be on TV."

Fan #2: "I love the 3rd baseman, Creed (pronunciation is correct).

Fan #3:  Kisses reporter before giving an answer about Ozzie.

Seriously...
Turn on WGN right now if you are still up.  Hilarious.

Just lemme know when the Cubs-bashing starts
Until then, the Sox fans are entitled to their celebration.  Lord knows they could use one just as much as we could.

Well
The classy AL Champs had some sweet Bartman 03 Marlins jersey showing off in the background on Fox. Great people. Good for them.

Congratulations to the White Sox
Four consecutive Ws, four consecutive Quality Starts, four consecutive complete game victories (and Buerhle would've gone 10+ if he had to) ... true, it was against the free-swinging Angels, but that's the sort of thing the Cubs' starters were expected to do these past two years.  The White Sox also (more or less, and partly perhaps due to Molina's injury getting aggravated on some check swings) notched all my "keys to the series."  Of course, I'm just assuming about the lucky pencils.

Congratulations to the Pale Hose
You have to be pretty selfish not to be glad to see a pennant winner in Chicago...
...no matter if it is the Sox! They deserve it!
The team played great baseball for 4 consecutive games against a good opponent, the Angels.
We're sad it wasn't the Cubs, but we should be glad Chicago has a pennant winner!
Go Sox and win the World Series!

Blech
I'll never understand how its for Chicago. I've lived here all my life and this is depressing.

by Slaky311 on Oct 17, 2005 12:41 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I would be lying...
if I said I was happy.  I would be lying if I said I was depressed.  I wouldn't be lying if I said I was jealous.  I hate them because I'm jealous and their team is really good.  Yay for Chicago?  But who is Chicago?  Because if Chicago means and includes me and many other  Cub fans that live around here, there is no reason to win for Chicago.

earmuffs
I'm just going to wear them to school and work is all.

Hats off the the Sox though, I was raised to give credit where it's due therefore I will.

Aside from the assinine calls (Did anyone hear on Fox the comment, "Well mark this day down, the Angels actually get a call!") they played very consistent and very tough.

Pitching was impressive and Francisco Rodriguez seemed to just breakdown at the end there.  Timely hits and solid pitching.

To the American League Champions of 2005....salute.

Sparkles made mentioned of this theory earlier:

2002 -- Angels break their curse.
2004 -- Red Sox break their curse.
2005 -- White Sox break their curse.

This can only mean one thing.....OUR TURN!

I'm not going to play because I can, know what I mean? I'll play because I deserve it. -Greg Maddux

Construction at Wrigley Field
Isn't it about time to dynamite that monstrosity and start over.

Arlington Park burnt down and a better facility arose.

Site lines at Wrigley are pitiful.  Don't you guys realize that girders arn't needed anymore.  No more blocked views.

Chicago Stadium was torn down and United Center rose.
