Felix Pie on TV?

I'm not totally sure if I get ESPN Deportes in Chicago (Comcast) but I saw off this site which is in spanish unfortuntely :)
http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/story?id=376880

that the Azucareros del Este which I think is the team Pie is playing for are going to be on ESPN Deportes Wed. December 7th at 7EST.

Does anyone know if we get it in chicago?  I can't check right now because my Tivo is freaking out but I certainly see enough commercials for it.

Also has anyone found a site for the Azucareros del Este?  (Sugar Bowls of the East?)  My spanish is muy mal so I haven't been able to find one.  Box scores are pretty universal so I don't mind a spanish site which I assume will be the case.

A few of the other teams in the league have sites like

Licey
http://www.licey.com
Wilson Betemit
Clint Barmes

Gigantes
http://www.gigantesdelcibao.com

Leones

According to...
... my handy New Channel Line-Up from Comcast, dated August 10, 2005, we do not get ESPN Deportes in the city, at least not on my digital system.

YMMV. If you find it, let me know. I'd love to see some ballgames.

Ahh, Babelfish
I'm always amused by the kind of output you get from Altavista:
ESPN SPORTS, the only chain with exclusive and exhaustive rights in the United States of Dominican Liga of Baseball, will begin its cover of the season 2005 Wednesday 2 of 7 November to p.m. ET, with the transmission of the encounter between the Cibaeñas Eagles, champions of the 2004, in front of the Tigers of the Licey. In addition, the Maxima appears living of the Latin American baseball, Juan Marichal, the only player born in the raised Dominican Republic to the Hall the fame, returns like analyst by second consecutive season of the transmissions of ESPN Deportes. It will accompany Kevin to him Cabral, a veteran relator that has narrated games of League and Great Leagues before the Dominican televidencia by more than 15 years. Carlos Jose Lugo, with more than 17 years of experience in front of the microphone, will fungirá like reporter from the game land.

I know it's hard to automatically translate between very complex languages, but these kinds of paragraphs are almost as hard to read as the original Spanish. :)

Dominican stats
Thanks for posting this.  I've been wondering how to get these stats.  If you go to the Licey site mentioned above, you can click on the left sidebar for statistics (Estadisticas LIDOM) and get to this page: http://www.licey.com/numeritos2005/SR2005/STANDING.asp
The names of all the teams are displayed across the top.  Click on a team name to see up-to-date stats.

Whoops Pie plays for Licey
I said he played for the Azucareros del Este(sugar bowls of the east?  Seriously?)  He actually plays for Licey I guess.  Curse my one language brain!

by JonH on Nov 2, 2005 6:27 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, I know..
... it literally translates as "Sugar Bowls". But I think it more likely means "sugar growers" or "sugar farm workers".

Anyone with a little better handle on Spanish here?

by Al Yellon on Nov 2, 2005 7:34 PM CST up reply actions

Me!
I usually use azucareros for where we put the sugar, but you are right, Al.  It is for people that cultivate sugar or "sugar farm workers."

And the article says that it is on Dish Network, and I don't have Dish, but my uncle does so I'm going to try to get him to record it for me, and maybe I can get a look at this Pie kid.

You know, pie means foot in spanish and the way they pronounce it in english sounds kind of like how it is pronounced in spanish.  It's an interesting last name.

So you're saying...
... he's Felix Foot???

LOL!

Sort of like Joe Table (Jose Mesa), or Sunday Ramos (Domingo Ramos), or Happy Polanco (Placido Polanco).

LOL
Yes, Al.  I guess that's what I'm saying.

I think thats how people mean to pronounce and I hadn't realized that because nobody says it like pie as in apple pie.  I'm kinda slow.

This site is pretty interesting...
http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/story?id=378204

I read that as everybody knows, the Mets are interested in Furcal and also Benji Molina.

It talks a little bit about the Cubs too.  It says that the Braves were meeting with Furcal today.  Then, he is meeting with the Cubs, New York, and three other teams.  The agent, Kinzer, said he didn't mention the other 3 because they still haven't established business and made formal appointments. The writer also says that if the Cubs can't sign Furcal to fill Nomar's spot, they can keep another one of Kinzer's clients Neifi Perez. Then, the article goes on to say that if the Cubs get Furcal, Neifi can be an option for the Braves or the Mets.  Kinzer goes on to say he feels priveleged to be in that position because Furcal and Neifi are some of the best leadoff guys out there right now.

Well, the info about the meetings is interesting, but I have to question everything else.  Neifi will not fill Nomar's shoes, and the Braves or Mets will probably not go for Neifi as an option.  Maybe as a bench guy, but that's not really probable either.  And as we all know Neifi is not a good leadoff guy.

That site also lead to me to another article about how Alex Rodriguez was playing poker at an illegal club.  It doesn't say he got in trouble though or anything.  It said playing poker wasn't illegal, but said the running of the club was.  I was a little confused, it's weird.

Oops..
got confused.  I assumed Kinzer was talking about leadoff guys, but he said that Furcal and Neifi were the best shortstops.  Sorry, my knowledge in baseball terms isn't the best since I don't watch baseball in spanish.

Update...
on Pie's game for today.  He went 0-4. Grounded-out twice, struck-out once, and flied out.  I would post a link so you guys could see the play-by-play, but I don't know how. Follow the link Jon has it will get you there, and then click on play-by-play or boxscore.

And is it just me getting confused again, or are many of these names on Pie's team familiar?? Hanley Ramirez I believe is a top prospect for the Red Sox, and I think Al has posted before a rumor with Curtis Granderson involved.

I'd love to have Granderson..
... but I don't see the Tigers letting him go. There is another Tiger, Craig Monroe, that the Cubs are supposedly interested in acquiring.
