According to this story from today's Tribune, which was about the Sox setting a deadline for Konerko to make his intentions known:
"Jim [Thome] had a complete no-trade," Gillick said. "In the end we were only dealing with two clubs. Really three, but the Cubs had a first baseman (Derrek Lee), so in reality it was only two (the Sox and Cleveland)."

I was flabbergasted to read this. What would Hendry have been thinking in talking to the Phillies about Thome? He would obviously have had to be a bench player here, and who would we have given in return?
Just wondering if you all are as perplexed as I am.
