Wilkerson for Cedeno?

Just to keep my mind off of waiting for official Furcal news, saw this one run across mlbtraderumors.com.

Brad Wilkerson for Ronny straight up?  Apparently his source is close to Barry Larkin's cousin or something crazy like that.  Probably totally made up, but interesting nonetheless.  I don't like the idea...

Thoughts?

I don't put much stock in that site
but, I really really really like Wilkerson.  Problem is, if we're trading Walker for Bradley, and Cedeno for Wilkerson, then we're stuck with Neifi at second.  I don't think any of us wants that.

I can't see...
... both of those deals being made... it'd probably be one or the other.

I like Wilkerson. He had a down year in 2005 due to injury -- this might be a really good time to grab him.

Nomar At 2B?
Let's assume these deals are done and both Walker and Cedeno leave. Howsabout Nomar, because dammit, I want to see him still as a Cub.

Hmmmm
  1. Furcal, SS
  2. Garciaparra, 2B
  3. Lee, 1B
  4. Ramirez, 3B
  5. Bradley, CF
  6. Wilkerson, RF
  7. Murton, LF
  8. Barrett, C
  9. Zambrano, P

I kinda like the look of that
I think keeping Nomar at 2B would be a good idea.  Of course we still have the contingent Neifi if he goes down, but overall I think it would be a good idea.

Very interesting....
I think many of us have just written off Nomar, but I like the look of this line up.  I don't really see Nomar resigning, though.  I think we might be able to get Bradley and not give up Walker in the process, especially if this talk about him being non-tendered is true.  If that's the case, we save some money (Walker's 2.5 mil compared to what it might take to re-sign Nomar--7 or 8 mil?).  With that $$, I'd still look at trading for Pierre.  With him and Furcal at the top, guys like Ramirez and Lee can drive in a bunch.  With Murton, Bradley, and Wilkerson, we can almost have a 3 man rotation in the corner outfield slots.  This would be similar to what the Reds did last year when Griffey, Dunn, Pena and Kearns were all healthy. Then we can run out a line up of:

CF Pierre
SS Furcal
1B Lee
3B Ramirez
LF Wilkerson/Murton/Bradley
RF Bradley/Murton/Wilkerson
2B Walker
C  Barrett
P

if both these deals are done...
and that's a HUGE IF, since i doubt either one will happen as described on the aforementioned site, then i think the Cubs should try to swing a deal for Luis Castillo. We've already talked to them about acquiring Juan Pierre, so we know which prospects they like. We would simply change discussions to acquiring Castillo, who is rumored to be on the block as well. Then our lineup would be:
  1. Furcal, SS
  2. Castillo, 2B
  3. Lee, 1B
  4. Ramirez, 3B
  5. Bradley, CF
  6. Wilkerson, RF
  7. Murton, LF
  8. Barrett, C
  9. Zambrano, P
Its incredibly unlikely, but it can be fun to speculate sometimes, especially when the speculation looks like that!
The Cubs will thrive in twenty-oh-five... or sometime thereafter!

Grudgingly...
I have to admit your lineup looks good, too. I just wish the Nomar thing could work out, though. And yes, speculating like this is lot of fun. More fun than work, since that's where I'm supposed to be right now. I'm going in late because I saw McCartney at Staples last night, and so now I'm taking advantage of my work's goodwill by suggesting moves for the Cubs.

by BeerCub on Nov 30, 2005 10:17 AM CST up reply actions

Wow...
... what a comedown, Paul McCartney is now playing office-supply stores...

Oh, you meant the Staples Center...

never mind...

by Al Yellon on Nov 30, 2005 10:23 AM CST up reply actions

LOL
Yeah, the "hip" L.A. lingo is just "Staples", as opposed to "Staples Center". The Arrowhead Pond though, isn't just "Arrowhead" but "the Pond", as in "I saw McCartney at the Pond two weeks ago as well."

Larkin's cousin's sister's boyfriend's brother-in-
law's best friend's aunt's post got deleted.  I put more faith in her knowledge of the Thanksgiving affairs than RotoAuthority's.

Guys,
This site is so lame.  I think the formula goes:
