What would it take to get Abreu

I'm curious what BCB readers think it would take realistically for the Cubs to get Bobby Abreu, in the setting of a rumored offering from the Orioles of Erik Bedard and Jay Gibbons

Is there a realistic offer we could make not involving Lee/Ramirez/Z/Prior

Would Jerome Williams/Felix Pie and (one of Nolasco/Pinto/Hill or any other Phillies choice of an additional pitching prospect) be on a level with Bedard/Gibbons

No, it wouldn't...
... Williams doesn't have the "buzz" status that Bedard does, and of course Gibbons is an established major league player; none of the others you mention are.

Could the Phillies be interested in Corey Patterson? Maybe, but unfortunately, it would still probably take a major league starting pitcher better than Williams to make this deal.

Perhaps a third team could be involved.

Gillick and the Phillies have said
it would take a Number one starter to get Abreu and the only team that was willing to part with a number one starter was the Marlins who parted with Beckett.

I don't see the Cubs doing this unless, Hendry can convince Gillick that Kerry Wood is a number one starter.

Or...
... maybe the Cubs could engineer a way to get Zito to the Phillies.

Much as I'd like Zito, if he could bring the Cubs Abreu, I'd like to see how that could be accomplished.

of the two...
I think I would rather see Abreu on the Cubs then Zito.  Don't get me wrong, Zito is a stud, but Abreu would fit so nicely in our RF and the number #2 spot in our batting order.

It feels like Cubs fans love him, I know I do, but still seem willing to get rid of him, that says something about his durability and performance the last few years.  I think it was take more then just Wood inorder to land a big name.
