DENVER - In their second transaction of the day, the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday evening acquired OF Eric Byrnes and INF Omar Quintanilla plus cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for LHP Joe Kennedy and RHP Jay Witasick. Byrnes will be placed on Colorado's 25-man roster and Quintanilla has been assigned to Class AAA Colorado Springs.

Wow
I like the Rocks' take on this one.  Byrnes is decent hitter, and is a stud in the OF..and with that big OF in Colorado, he could be real valuable.

What? WHAT?
Why are the Rockies trading away pitchers? Isn't that their need?
According to the Chicago Tribune: "The Oakland A's are 32-0 when they have scored more runs than their opponents.

Not really
the Rockies problem is just that they're terrible.  Bad offense, bad defense, bad pitching.  They need everything.  The pitching is bad, but it just looks worse than it is by the inferno that is Coors Field.

Really?
What's saying the Cubs can't trade for scrappy Eric Byrnes? Who's saying that they're definitely holding on to him? If the Cubs could come up with a package to pick up Byrnes and Brian Fuentes from the Rockies, I'd be ok with that.

i was thinking that too...
but who would the rocks want in trade? would they be interested in C-pat? Mitre?
a good team can't be beat!

Patterson...
... actually might be a good fit in Denver. His speed would be useful in CF, and he could forget about plate discipline and just aim for the RF upper deck in Coors.

This isn't as ridiculous as it sounds.

plus,
the rockies are looking for cheap talent, but i think the real thing to lust after from Colorado is Fuentes, but what would the asking price be?

If Hendry...
...wastes time, energy and Cub talent on Eric Byrnes, then we can all kiss our already-tenuous playoff hopes goodbye. Look up the numbers; he's not a worthwhile upgrade. Unless he plays in Denver. We can do better.

Agreed
Murton has much more upside. Byrnes deosn't give this team any better chance at the playoffs, this year or in the future, IMO. Fuentes would upgarde the pen for sure (only 1 HR allowed in 27 IPs at Coors Field).
