Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Whew! Close one.

Well, maybe not a close one, but you can breathe easier now that Preston Wilson has signed with the Nats. No need to worry about the Cubbies taking a step backward by signing him (even just for a little while).

So... what is the latest on Dunn? Hollandsworth has been pretty awful of late and that includes today. His hit was a cheap blooper out into left that probably would have been caught if the LF was positioned a little better. Now that Hairston is cooking they could use some more OBP/SLG from the left field slot.

More on Dunn...
I've heard rumors that Astros are trying to pry Cubs away to acquire Dunn. Also, the Astros are trying to get Third Baseman Joe Randa and LF Adam Dunn for 3 or 4 prospects. The Astros would move Ensberg from 3B to 1B and insert Randa at 3B, and move Berkman from 1B to RF and put Lane on the bench. Also put Dunn in LF. That's what the Astros are looking at the possibilty trade with the Reds.

No way, I wouldn't want to see that happen! Jim Hendry needs to do something aggressive to try acquire Dunn and have to give up some very good prospects from Cubs' farm that what the Reds want. Also, I know that Reds are trying to trade Randa, Kearns, and Griffey. However; Griffey's contract is more difficult to trade because of his huge contract. Dunn's value makes more sense and easier to trade. But most teams aren't interested in Kearns because the teams mostly want Dunn instead.

So keep tuned. Hopefully Cubs can somehow get Dunn and prevent Astros from getting Dunn and/or Randa.

I don't particularly care...
... if the Astros get Randa... but the Cubs should do anything they can to get Dunn, particularly if it keeps him away from Houston. I can only imagine how he might hit in that park.

Not only do we want to get Dunn..
but we have an overabundance of pitching that we have to get rid of soon. If i remember right, we have a lot of guys that will be out of options after this year, and they will either have to be on the MLB roster for 2006 or traded away. I say we should trade some of these guys away now and put together a solid package for Dunn and if they're willing to send 2 guys our way try to get either Ryan Freel or Austin Kearns as well.

If i have time over the next week, i'll look into the too-many-pitchers problem i'm talking about above. Don't count on it though, as i'll be on a slooooow internet connection...

The Cubs will thrive in twenty-oh-five!

Berkman's knee...
isn't healthy enough for him to play the outfield everyday, and they desperately need his bat in the lineup.

That being said, I hope they make the moves necessary to force him into the outfield

Embrace the Neifi!
