manny demands a trade

and the front office is looking into it.
let's offer them the peoria chiefs and half the diamond jaxx.
seriously? how could this possibly be a bad idea? they can even have matt murton back. sure we may regret it later, but i'll cry myself to sleep on my sports illustrated commemorative "cubs win the world series" video.

I couldn't agree more
he has plenty left in the tank, but does still have a large salary nut to overcome.

I just worry about the dislike for Alou what those same folks will say about Manny's D and baserunning.  :-)

can he bring
Johnny Damon too?

by socalbob on Jul 28, 2005 5:09 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

they're both welcome
manny's base running is one of the most horrible things i've ever witnessed. in fact, the entire indians team with him and alomar and vizquel was one of the most pathetically lazy teams ever. but they won a lot.

i think his d might be slightly under-rated. people try to run on manny all the time, but i've seen him gun a number of guys down at the plate lately.

either way, people can complain all they want. like i said, i'll have all sorts of world series memorabilia to fill my world with while ignoring them.

I agree too...
he has a great arm.  Some people think he doesn't run hard.  And he doesn't, but he has a good arm.  He doesn't run hard on the bases though.  He's kind of like the Ramirez we have, they both don't run very well.

There is an article just posted
on FOX sports about this situation.

Jesus, is would be heaven to land Manny.

See my game post...
... for more thoughts on Ramirez.

I'd do it. Absolutely.

I love it!
I love a man who embraces his curls.

And I agree with billywan, I don't think his d is as bad as everyone says. I've been specifically watching him and Damon lately, and he's looked okay to me.

Good lord
Soriano, Ramirez, all these rumors!

These are some big time players. I just cannot see the Cubs ending up with one of them, but then again, they got Nomar last year so anything is possible.

Ah, Who Knows....
Maybe the Cubs, Rangers and Red Sox are in a three way deal. Cubs get Manny, Rangers get Bellhorn, a Cub pitcher or so, Red Sox get Soriano, maybe Mench or someone like that. A ew throw ins, who knows?

Manny
I wouldn't mind getting Manny. Kind of reminds me of Bonds; whiny and wants what he wants. Nut a good BA, OBP guy that although strikes out walks a lot too. I say bring him in. I think the Cubs may be able to be part of the 3 team trade. Cubs can afford it. There are pros and cons to every deal but a HUGE bat which is what we have been clamoring for? I say get 'em.

Ramirez's Reason For A Trade...
...is that he feels his "privacy" been compromised? WHAT????? So let's send him to New York, or Chicago? I dunno.......

If he's THAT much of a head case, the Cubs better not send anything more tham prospects or a lot of marginal guys. NO WAY they trade Aramis for a set of problems like this.

by BeerCub on Jul 30, 2005 12:37 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

privacy
is only part of the reason he's using. he also apparently had a confrontation with schilling the other day after he refused to play when nixon got hurt.

or is it really neither? is it really just a case of the front office trying to smear the guy to make him easier to trade? it's a classic modern baseball tactic to keep the fans from rioting...

i really think this trade won't happen. but if the red sox can get better defensively, and only a little worse offensively, it would make a huge difference for them. they've got runs to spare on offense, but their runs allowed is pretty awful for a first place team.

Yeah
and Manny Ramirez is a BIG part in providing runs to spare.  When you think of the Red Sox's offense you think David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez.  You think Johnny Damon gets on base for them to drive in.  I dunno about everyone else, but I don't think about Keving Millar, Bill Mueller, or Edgar Renteria when I think about the offense they have.  As being a fan of the Red Sox too, I want Manny going nowhere.

true
manny's a huge part of the offense. and i mostly agree with you. i just think it's an interesting dilemma for the red sox. simply put, the red sox don't win the series last year unless they trade nomar. they gave up offense for better defense, and that carried them down the stretch. i know it didn't look that way when they were pummeling the cardinals, but that's how they won the wild card.

so if they don't do this deal, kevin is their starting right fielder with john olerud playing first. not to mention bellhorn and renteria are both on the shelf right now as wel.

if they do the deal, they have cameron in right, huff in left, and their choice at first. and they get so much better defensively all of a sudden.

just think it's an interesting problem.

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
