tori hunter

out for 4-6 weeks with a torn tendon in his ankle. the twins just can't seem to have a breakthrough year...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2119975

"Gold Glove center fielder Torii Hunter has a torn tendon in his left ankle and will be sidelined for at least 4-6 weeks, ESPN's Harold Reynolds learned Friday night.

Hunter, who was taken off the field on a stretcher, will remain with the Twins through the weekend, then fly back to Minnesota on Monday to have an MRI. The MRI should determine if the damage is more extensive."

What a shame
I liked Tori and I feel bad for the Twins.  OTOH,  I like the A's which means they might have one less competitor for the WC.  This might affect their trade talks , are they selling now?  Because we could definitely use some of their bullpen guys...

Good Question
I think this makes the Twins sellers now at this point. It has to. Hunter is PIVOTAL to that squad and even when he does come back, there is no guarantees that he'll be the same player with his tremendous speed, this year anyways.

perhaps the cubs will get lucky
and the twins will fall all over themselves making offers for corey patterson.

Say!
How about Patterson for J. C. Romero?

Very Good!
Put a call in to Terry Ryan and leave Hendry's number. Seriously!

Anybody got Terry Ryan's number?
Or maybe we could slip him the address of this site?

by Al Yellon on Jul 30, 2005 9:25 AM CDT up reply actions

Better do it fast!
I think the BoSox have interest in Romero too and they are playing the Twins so they wouldn't have to go far, so hurry!

He had no fracture
But the injury, at least looking at the replays of the play, looked really freaky.
According to the Chicago Tribune: "The Oakland A's are 32-0 when they have scored more runs than their opponents.

What was even uglier...
... was that injury that Atlanta's Jay Powell suffered throwing a pitch last night. Looks like a career-ender.

So I heard...
It looked uglier than Chad Fox's.

When I first saw it...
... it looked like the injury to Dave Dravecky that not only cost him his career, but his arm, which had to be amputated.

by Al Yellon on Jul 30, 2005 8:31 PM CDT up reply actions

That's the guy!
Thanks heaps for that reply. It's been ages since I last heard his name, and I had been scratching my head in search of it since early May. I just forgot what happened to his arm, so Google couldn't help me when I typed career-ending injuries in the search field.

You're welcome!
Frighteningly, I read that Powell's injury is a fractured humerus. That's the same injury that Dravecky had.

Poor Powell
Let's hope it's nothing -more- serious; he should focus on his recovery from now on and definitely not baseball.
