Can Dusty just stop talking? Please?
"He's a guy who's gotten better. I remember my old general manager Al Campanis telling me that a player doesn't reach his peak until he's somewhere between 32 or 36 [years old] and beyond, and it depends on how his legs are and his desire and if he keeps his weight down and his waistline down. I don't see D-Lee having any problem with that."
--Cubs manager Dusty Baker, on the origins of his veteran fetish (MLB.com)
Yeah DLee is good and all, but come on. Al Campanis vs. actual statistical data? No wonder Dusty wants to play old guys -- they MUST be better because Al Campanis said so!
And now Neifi(!) wants to come back, but only if he's an everyday starter. sigh Maybe its just me, but that strikes terror in my heart...

Wait a sec..
Dusty is like that, he mentions a lot of people. As long as the team he manages brings us a world series, he can say whatever he wants.
The cubs will not start Neifi opening day
I didn't see that quote either and hope he didn't really say it because I would like to see him back. Neifi is the prototypical veteran bench guy and the Cubs were lucky to have him this year but he is not good enough to be the every day starter on a playoff bound team.
Me neither...
Neifi is an excellent bench guy. Because he had to start that made our bench weaker. We need a good bench. Just look at what the Cardinals' bench has done for them. The bench is yet another area the Cubs have to improve in. That is a reason that could help Corey stay. He is a good defender in a defensive position which would be good to have on the bench. But we all know that the Cubs and Corey don't like the bench.
