Open Thread: 2006 NLCS, Game 5

Yes, they're still playing baseball.

Mets at Cardinals, 7 pm CT. (Series tied 2-2) TV: Fox

Don't have much to say about this, other than we already know there'll be a game six tomorrow in New York. The Mets appear to have the advantage as Tom Glavine gets to start tonight on normal rest instead of short rest. Not that I like either NL team, but at least a Tigers/Mets matchup, which would be a first-time matchup, would spare us all the Tigers/Cardinals comparisons from the two other times (1934, 1968) they met in the World Series.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Nah, not pre-med, theory is what I look at more. However, I will definetly do pre-med once I've settled into a nice teaching job.

That's what I want to do after I finish my Army time. Like a Psych degree, a History degree is basically good for teaching and waiting tables. Though I do dream of opening my own cigar store someday.

I did ROTC
until the past summer.  It didn't end on the best terms thanks to an asshole colonel that felt his huge ego gave him the right to say things me he wasn't allowed to.  Also, a military doc with a hidden agenda is never a good thing either.  When I tell a doctor, "it hurts to breathe," I don't want his response to be, "that'll go away in a couple weeks" and take away my medical leave all bc he doesn't want me to quit the program.

I never had a chip on my shoulder until that piece of shit colonel said those things to me.

Well that sucks
My experience has been much better, for the most part. ROTC is actually one of the few things I've ended up liking about Georgetown. Many (though not all) of the rest of the people here are tools.

by Perkins on Oct 18, 2006 12:27 AM CDT up reply actions

I hated
ROTC.  It was absolutely boring and nothing but a pain in the ass.  I'm much happier without it.  I hated pretty much all the people in it.  There was only one person out of the entire battlion I considered a friend and wanted to hang out with.

It doesn't compare to
Downtown, which is where I used to live (right by Grant Park).  Evanston is boring, there isn't crap to do there except going to the great movie theatre by the Davis stop.

Rogers Park (RoPa) is wicked boring.  We have a ghetto movie there a couple blocks away (known as the ghettoplex) and a few college bars.  Our Downtown campus is great, but it's kinda a pain in the ass to ride the shuttle (Loyola has a contract with a private bus company to go back and forth between campuses M-F all day every 10-15 minutes) for class.

also from the ESPN article about ARod
For the Cubs, whose management experienced the rare and unnerving sight of empty seats at Wrigley Field this past season, the attraction of Rodriguez is obvious.
I know I tuned out towards the end of the season but every game I watched looked pretty packed to me and even the games that didn't have full capacity most likely were sellouts at the box office.

The Cardinals have to be the luckiest
franchise in baseball.  Only in St. Louis could Jeff Weaver turn things around.  If I'm Mark Prior or Kerry Wood, I try to get to St. Louis, so I can win the next 10 Cy Youngs. :(

GET SORIANO!

by CubFaninCA on Oct 18, 2006 12:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Black may be good
but Duncan just seems to be able to turn guys around.  Ponson was the one that was even too much for him.  I don't think Ponson really wants it and no coach can overcome that.  I remember all the laughing here when Weaver signed with the Cards.  I said just wait, he seems a perfect Duncan candidate.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him win 12-14 next year for the Cards.

I'm still waiting for the first Rothschild turnaround.

by rlpete on Oct 18, 2006 1:27 AM CDT up reply actions

Dave Duncan
is miracle worker with reclamation projects.  Look at the guys he had success with during his days in Oakland and now in St. Louis.  As mentioned previously, I spend a lot of time down in St. Louis on business (I'm three blocks from Busch today and tomorrow).  According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals and Duncan want to re-sign Jeff Weaver and think he can be a solid perennial 15 game winner.  They also want to bring back Jeff Suppan and Mark Mulder, and think they will be successful on both accounts.  Jason Marquis is the guy they probably let walk.  And a big rumor floating down here is that the Cards will pull out all the stops to acquire Adam Dunn AND MAYBE EVEN JUAN PIERRE.

by BlueMike on Oct 18, 2006 10:08 AM CDT up reply actions
