Rich Hill and Rob Neyer

This is probably the stupidest and pointless post, but I'm so high on this kid that this little bit of endorsement got me giddy electric (I know what I mean)... Praise the future, Hendry don't trade this kid...PLEASE.
Was on the espn gamechat and after flooding Rob with the same question over and over, I finally got an answer (and then apologized for my rude behavior, just thought I'd mention). Here it is:

Nassim (New York)
Your thoughts on Rich Hill?

ROB NEYER
I love him, think if he's healthy he'll be quite good. Solid fastball, wonderful curveball. Love him.

ROB NEYER
Thanks for sticking around through all the precipitation. Hope to see you tomorrow night. And did I mention I love Rich Hill?

BUZZMASTER
All right, fans, that'll wrap up our rain edition of the chat. Thanks to Rob for sticking around to field questions. We'll be here tomorrow night at 8:30 for Game 4. Hopefully we'll have some baseball!

My one minute of fame... Truly enjoyed it, and now I need to get a life.

Part of me thinks Hill is too good to be true
I'm kinda expecting him to come out and suck this year.

The sad thing is, that would illustrate Cubs luck perfectly.

Well I'm just hoping that
"Incidentally, Collosus was wrong and Neyer was right about Rich Hill".... But that's just me.

Please note that I said "kinda"
So I would only be "kinda" wrong.

ok...
Ignore my first comment. Insert "kinda" and properly spell "Collosus". Still you get my point, kinda.

he has the minor league numbers
and just didn't groove until the last time up. I think it was mental. ha! Rich Hill looks real. sign him to a 10 year, $40 million contract. the rates are going up.

by cashcowsquirtingsourmilk on Oct 25, 2006 10:35 PM CDT reply actions

I agree!
I think Hill's for real. Although a 10 year 40 million extension is a little premature. Buy Yea, I think it was a mental thing. A lot of opposing batters at the end of the year said his stuff was just nasty. I'm very confident he'll be a very good #2 pitcher next year.

Mmmm.. chipotle
i cholesterolically disagree. Chipotle tastes just like an angel cooked and simmered in a pot, wrapped in a burrito with beans, rice, and other toppings.

Sometimes, pitchers just
...figure it out. There's no rhyme or reason.  In spring training, Sean Marshall was awesome. Hill was...not so awesome. The Cubs had to go with Marshall, in a pinch. I hope Marshall's experience serves him well in the future. Hill's future seems to be NOW.

I don't....
know if you were joking or not, but we could probably get something pretty good in return for him. Everybody wants left-handed starting pitching. And considering he's only 23 years old and he made the jump to the majors with barely any AA experience, I suspect many teams would take a chance on him. Of course, his potential down-the-line could also be used to as reasons to not trade him. But I'd trade him.

the trading deadline

by cashcowsquirtingsourmilk on Oct 26, 2006 1:31 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm not high on Marshall
simply because he doesn't seem to have any outstanding pitches.  He has average stuff, at best.  Kind of a left handed Sergio Mitre.

Bring in Neyer as a special consultant
You know how the Red Sox hired Bill James as a consultant the year before they busted their curse?
Rob Neyer is a younger, hipper Bill James. (He's worked on James's last few books, and co-authored one with him recently.)
Hendry/McDonough should bring in Neyer on a retainer to consult with Piniella and the scouts.

Young Arms
I think if Rich Hill stays healthy next year he will win 12-15 games, depending on how much offense is acquired through a FA, trade, or progression of youngsters like Murton or Theriot.

I like Marshall. I think if he started the season as the Cubs 5th starter, that would not be so bad.

I'd like to see this rotation:
Zambrano
FA  whether it be top-tier (Zito or Schmidt) or middle (Suppan, Lily, Meche)
Hill
Prior   (i guess im dumb like Hendry but i cant get past his 2003)
Marshall

Marmol could be a huge help in the back end of the pen. He seems to be better suited there.

Glenallen Hill hit that ball 600 feet.

I look
for great things from Hill next season. I'm really glad he figured it out and had a good last couple of months.
