Matsuzaka to Red Sox

I know, I know--it's all heresay......but,

Charlie Steiner is on ESPN Radio 2:54 PM EST saying that Buster Olney has an inside scoop on the Matsuzaka bidding and is reporting that The Red Sox have won the rights to Matsuzaka with a bid somewhere between 38 and 43 million dollars.

For what it's worth--

OH, MY GOD!
Check out this link:

Has anyone ever heard of this Matsuzaka kid? Is he any good?
I think the Cubs should think about putting a bid on him.
I wonder how this whole "posting" process works?

48 mil?!?!?
Ouch!

Well, they probably aren't going after many other big-time FAs after they get done with that contract.  40-ish-million just to negotiate - then comes the contract.

One less suitor for the other big FAs.

Bogus
BaseballDailyDigest.com is reporting that anything we've heard about who won the rights to Matsuzaka is probably bogus.  Here's a snippet from their e-mail:
If you've heard a Daisuke Matsuzaka rumor, it's most likely bogus. I have heard everything from the Red Sox bidding $38-$45 million, the Rangers bidding $30 million, the Angels winning the bidding, and then the Angels not bidding at all! So until we have more concrete information, I will refrain from giving more details.

Let's start our own rumor...
The Cubs won the rights to Matsuzaka by bidding $1,000,000 and immediately signed him to a 8-year $16,000,000 contract.

Quick, someone send this to the Tribune!

I'm thinking
the Red Sox rumor (or at least the $45 million part of it) is bogus.

http://www.lohud.com/blogs/2006/11/calm-down-nothing-has-happened-yet-2.html

It goes into the genesis of this rumor and why none of it makes sense.

The Yankees are certainly acting like they didn't get him though.  Every other team (including the BoSox) is holding their hands close to their vest.

maybe
but the cubs reported 21 mil bid is sounding more and more like (not unexpectedly) a bid that will make them look serious without having any risk of actually having to pay the guy.

also, i think its funny that some of the yankees fans on he blog you linked are pissed that "all they got" for sheffield was prospects. oh the comedy of ignorance.

DEJESUS!!!
