Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Dombrowski won't be pres

There was some speculation that Dombrowski might be named Cubs President.  Turns out, speculation is all it ever was.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2647242

It would seem to figure that the Tigers would retain him for a while after this season.  No surprise there.  I think McDonough will keep the job.

i don't know
if there is a word for the opposite of "paralysis inducing, horrific shock" but that's what I am feeling right now. That degree of not suprised.

lol
you crack me up, in a "i'm kinda angry but funny" sort of way.

I don't see...
... why anyone is surprised at all about this.

by Al Yellon on Nov 2, 2006 3:49 PM CST reply actions

I agree
I only mention it because recently people here were, for some reason, discussing it as a serious possibility.

Still....
does not explain why we have a PR guy as Team President....

For the same reason...
...that a lot of school distruts now hire economists as superintendent and enironmental groups hire lawyers as president.  Sometimes it is not the obvious qualities that are necessary.

Why not give him a shot?

I would.....
feel much more comfortable if Hendry was not the GM.  I really don't have a problem with John.  With the current setup, I would rather have a baseball guy with a proven track record running things.

This IMHO, is only temporary anyways.  Once the team is sold, new management will be brought in...

McDonough
Maybe McDonough is just getting back from his latest visit to a Tony Robbins seminar or some other schmuck fest, and is prepared again to give Cub fans another say-nothing, rah-rah, marketing speech.  This guy has about as much credibility and vested authority to do anything as a paperclip.  He's a figurehead in the truest sense of the word.  When Andy McFail quit, the Tribune execs sat around the boardroom table and played a spirited contest of "eenie-meenie-minie-mo" to see who would be next Team President of the Cubs.  McDonough is the dope who lost.

Ok then
you keep on believing that John McDonough is a visionary and difference maker who has the vested authority to pilot this team to its first World Series since 1945.  What was it that sold you on McDonough?!?!?  His wondrous speeches recanting the brilliantly obvious?!?!  The fact that he has gone to lunch with Steve Stone every month for the last 92 years and therefore surely most be a fountain of keen baseball insight and business intellect?!?!

I don't know what the hell you're talking about...
...Mike. I just wasn't happy with the implication you made that paper clips don't have any authority or credibility.

I think perhaps the link I gave you would be a good place to start in order to rid yourself of your flagrant Clipism.

Paper clips are miracles Mike. Miracles. It's right there in the tagline.
