Hot Stove Update.......

A lot went on today in baseball.......just in case you missed it (and I didn't see anything about some of this in any diaries).....

-Danys Baez signed with the Baltimore Orioles for 3YR/$19M.

-Adam Eaton signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for 3YR/$24M.

-Randy Wolfe officially signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for 1YR.

-David Delluci signed with the Cleveland Indians for 3YR/$11.5M.

IMO, losing David Delluci is a big hit to the Phillies.......they are definetely going to miss his bat....

Hopefully Gil Meche and Vincente Padilla are signed by a team that ISN'T the CUBS in the near future so the CUBS can spend their money wisely and try for Jason Jennings.

Not sure I agree at all with the assertion...
...that Jennings is worth spending prospects for, only to have him for 1 year and then hit the market.

In fact I am sure I don't agree with that assertion at all.

I'd rather sign Meche or Padilla, two pitchers I am not enamoured with in the slightest, over dealing what young talent we have for Jason Jennings.

Well, I like Jennings better than I
like Westbrook......Who knows what the package would look like to land Jennings.......I don't.

I really like the idea of moving Jacque-Strap in order to land Freddy Garcia.......

Who wouldn't like the Jones for Garcia deal?
...and from what I've read about Jennings, the Rox asked for Rich Hill in return, which should have had Hendry asking if he could speak to Homer Sexual before he hung up the phone.

Delluci
is a big loss. 899 OPS was key for the Phils, especially after they traded Abreu. They need to sign a bat I think. Howard can't do it all on his own.

utley isn't too shabby either
they still need pitching more than anything else.
Baby, you got a stew goin'

The Phils are done with pitching...
They signed Eaton today.

5 slots filled.

Myers
Hamels
Lieber
Moyer
Eaton

Unless they plan on dealing Lieber, which I doubt, then there's no reason for them to go after anymore SP. Maybe a reliever or two, but that can certainly wait until after they get another bat.

I'm surprised...
...at the size of Eaton's contract.  $8 mil a year?  The guys not THAT good...

Especially
For an almost 30 year old that only made 13 starts last year.....with a career 4.40 ERA...much of that in pitcher's park Petco!

O's seem to be mimicking the Cubs
of last year by signing a lefty and righty reliever when the team needs a lot more help.    In the Cubs defense, I do like Howry and Eyre better than Baez and Walker.

O's are also supposedly "trying" to get some of the bigger names.

That's weird
Hamels was the 17th pick of the draft in 2002.  I would think anyone that good would have gathered some attention.  Heck, just being 6'4" would gather some attention.

The guy got a $2 million dollar signing bonus.  That was after he graduated, but still . . .

Rancho Bernardo HS?  Or are you talking middle school?  Because Hamels admits he was an unpopular geek then.

I have a buddy
that's 6'4, I just see him as a taller guy from time to time, don't really put much thought into height.
