Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Soriano COMPLETE contract details

"Complete" because a diary was already posted with the contract details but it was missing the incentives which I believe we have yet to discuss on this site.

Star-divide

This you already knew:

Signing Bonus: $8 million

  1. $9 million
  2. $13 million
  3. $16 million
  4. $18 million
  5. $18 million
  6. $18 million
  7. $18 million
  8. $18 million
But "tadaaaa" the fun little incentives:

Soriano's deal gives him a complete no-trade provision and guarantees a suite on Cubs road trips, according to contract information obtained by The Associated Press. In addition, Soriano is guaranteed six premium tickets for each home game during spring training, regular season and the postseason _ and for the All-Star game if he is selected.

There are also plenty of incentives for the five-time All-Star, who will be the Cubs leadoff hitter. He gets $250,000 for collecting most All Star votes, $350,000 if he is selected the World Series MVP, $250,000 for the league championship series MVP, $300,000 for the MVP award and $75,000 for a Gold Glove.

As another provision, Soriano will donate $25,000 annually to United Way and $25,000 annually to Cubs Care foundation.

Funny how he gets the least amount of money for the award he is most unlikely to get... My feeble mind tells me it should be the other way around.

Ridiculous...
No way we should have offered Soriano six premium tickets per game. Maybe for spring training, but that contract just crossed into "Ridiculous" by guaranteeing Soriano six tickets per game all season. What if he makes the All-Star game AND we go to the WS? That could grant him at least 20 more free tickets...would it even be worth it? What next, Giving his mother a free jersey?

I agree
Ridiculous. Maybe they should just change the name of Wrigley Field to "Soriano Field" as part of the contract, as well.

Ridiculous ?????
Youve got to be joking.....right ? Thats less than 20 grand.....he makes that much in one game . Times two !!.  I would be more upset at the 8 year/136 million.

Daily Profit...
Okay, 9 million dollars, plus incentives.  Im courious about the net value of this deal. 6 Dugout Seat valued at 1,500 X 81 games = $1,215,000.  Not to mention the post season, add that yourself to what you expect the Cubs to do. Don't forget about the Spring Training too, so you can add on another  Okay, so what about the AWAY games you ask??? How much is a suite, I wish I had the experiance to know this but im guessin $1000-$2000, so I'll just say $1500.  Multiply that by 81, you got $1,215,000. All-Star Game, cause you can assume he makes that.  Not sure how much that cost, but I'll take a hack at it.  $500 X 6 = 3000.  So this is it. He gets $11,433,000 next year.  So At that value, figue he works January through half of October, roughly 275 days including off days.  Divide that by 11433000 Afonso gets $41,574.54 a DAY.  Oh, and dont forget about HOTELS FEES AND SPRING TRAINING TICKETS, lol.  Once again, these are rough estimates.
Soriano+ DLee + Ramirez = 1 Damn Good Meat of the Lineup AND Zambrano +.....(We're gettin there)

Good work
on your calculations. When you put it like that, it doesn't sound worth it to me. I mean, come on, the guy is making around $17 mln a year. Let him buy his own box seats!
