Baker passed over for Padres job...

The Padres have decided to make Angels pitching coach Bud Black their new manager, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

As I mentioned in a preior diary, Baker's interview was a mere courtesy for whatever reason.  He will not manage again.  Why would you hire him after watching his teams play progressively worse?

Bud Black is a good choice
This just means more Dusty on ESPN.

The interview was one question.

"How do you feel about walks?"

  • they clog the bases.
  • It's called hitting not walking!
  • It a major part of the game and imporves you chances of winning.
  • What's a walk.
  • I like Christopher's work...Oh walks...not Walken.

Followed by
5 minutes of blathering about how Jim Leyland will win the WS because he once tried to make Dusty sing karaoke in a bar in Topeka.

DIck Pole Hired
Dick Pole, Dusty Baker's bench coach with the Chicago Cubs the last four seasons, was hired Tuesday as the Cincinnati Reds' pitching coach.
"We're only 37 games into it. I have a lot of faith in Dusty that he'll be able to pull us out."--- Jim Hendry 5/16/06 Chgo Tribune

Heckler poll
Question: First the White Sox, then the Cardinals. Who will win the next WS?

A.    White Sox again, just to rub it in.

B.    The guys sleeping with my girlfriend.

C.    The Yankees (see #2)

D.    (and this is the reason I posted this) An expansion team of former Cubs, led by Sammy Sosa, Corey Patterson and Todd Hundley, managed by Dusty Baker.

Yep, D seems about right.

Of Course
Neifi would also be on that team if it were managed by Dusty.

Token interview
Nothing more, nothing less.  The Padres were trying to cover their keester with Bud Selig in terms of the minority hire thing.  Dusty was dumb enough to go along with the farce.

Especially since
MLB does not have a minority hire thing.. that's the NFL. Boy I'm glad he takes time out from answering all the Letters that are dumped in the bays of New Jersey into the ocean to grace us with his omniimpotent presense.

When he's not
intercepting letters to Santa and responding to them in threatning ways he's got to write back to his "fans" somehow.
