Marquis

is the deal really final and done?  There was no coverage of him getting a physical.  no official press conference scheduled.  does anybody know if this deal is complete?  also what are the terms of the deal.  just wondering cause its usually official by now. and also wow do i hate marquis so badly maybe my most hated cub.  how he even got more than league minimum appalls me terribly.

Very True
While I am kinda sick of the diary police dubbing each diary as worthy or not worthy.. this one is pretty bad. sorry.

A QUESTION
was asked.  Why dont you guys quit worrying about whether you have enough tampons in your purse to get through tomorrow and answer a legitimate question?  Whether the diary is worthy or not is completely subjective.  Whats more annoying than a non-worthy diary is having to read for a half hour about whether it is non-worthy.  So stop!  Half the stuff you guys say is verbatum from a kindergarden class, but most of us have enough class not to call people out on it everytime.  So when someone has a question, stupid or not, have enough class to answer it and not chastize the person who asked it

this wasn't really worthy of a comment
maybe you should try a diary

I'm sorry I just can't let this go
Any idiot can tell a joke, but it takes a true silver-tongued orator such as yourself who can actually become a joke.

Don't think that the irony of you calling us immature while in the same breath making pedestrian jokes about men needing tampons is lost on me. Good stuff.

Also, it doesn't serve you to try using words. Stick to the two and three letter ones. If we were making statements that are "verbatum from a kindergarten class" I would probably mention Dr. Seuss at least twice as frequently. Looks like your efforts backfired, hmmm.

Isn't "verbatum" spelled with an 'I'?
verbatIm -- just saying...

If something is officially official, it will be on Cubs.com before anywhere else. If someone else says it's signed and delivered before Cubs.com has it as a press release or what-not, I'm guessing it's not quite a done deal.

it is spelled that way
I was quoting him. Notice it was in quotes.

by Thelonious on Dec 15, 2006 2:17 PM CST up reply actions

oh
then you should have added a (sic) after it to indicate YOU knew the correct spelling. J/k I had a whole thing typed out after that that was mean and insulting and hopefully funny. Then I realized it lacked the third. And I don't like to be mean to one person unless it makes someone else laugh. So I just deleted it to that part.

if the insulting post was meant for me
you should have just sent it, because I would have topped it and then some. I have no problem with taking things to new levels.

Thelonius...
I often don't like to post anything too inflammatory, but here I can't help it.

You are a total jerk.

Roach is just asking a question.  Yes, there are other Marquis headlines but they are buried after loads of diaries about what songs certain people are putting on their iPods.

I am not blaming anyone (cubbiejulie) for putting out diaries that are not related (they are actually sometimes amusing) but quit bashing someone for asking a question.

And another thing... how do you know he didn't just sign up to this website and maybe didn't realize the other diaries?  If so, what a great way to welcome a new person to the website... by acting like an elitist.

It is a very good question.  I have absolutely no idea if the deal actually went through and reports are for salaries from 5-7 mill/year.  I too would like to know.

If it's such a stupid question, why don't you post the answer??

by nickler on Dec 15, 2006 1:18 PM CST up reply actions

haha...seriously?
Are you really going to be that way?

For the record, I don't even care about the supposed diary pollution problem. Others have tried to decide what is and what isn't diaryworthy, and I was just pointing out that this is the kind of thing that can be a comment in another thread instead. I don't see how exactly I'm being a jerk: I didn't insult his family or anything. I didn't insult roach personally. I don't think he's going to lose sleep over it; nor does he need you to fight his battles.

And I KNOW Roach isn't a new member, because I've seen him around before, and I can easily check his comment history.

You have some awfully thin skin, man. If you've seen me around, you might have realized that I rarely to never say things maliciously, but even so.....

Baby, you got a stew goin'

by Thelonious on Dec 15, 2006 2:25 PM CST up reply actions

Don't call him a jerk
A) not nice

B) not true

Come on, you guys. It's like everyone here just likes to hear themselves talk. We have 50 diaries every day on Marquis. We really should just start one master "Marquis Dump" diary every morning. I will agree that people have gotten carried away with what's "diary-worthy" and what's not (though as the poster of the original "Diary Pollution Diary," this is probably partly my fault), but if people could just CHECK to see if their diary subject has been discussed recently, it would go a long way towards eliminating some of the animosity here right now.

thanks julie
I must be losing my mind. My original comment was tongue-in-cheek, but people here are furious with me over it. Mad enough to make classy tampon jokes, even.

I'm going to go sit by myself in a dark room and think about what I've done.

remember that one time in gym class, when you de-pantsed me and everyone laughed at my pink underwear?  Well buster let me tell you/I/ will never forget!!

here's the thing
when you have 20 or 30 other diaries of Marquis, I fail to see why one question (which I've asked in other threads myself) has to be brought up again.

As for the kindergarten stuff, T-Drunk said it the best, the tampon joke was, at best, mediocre, that of a kindergartener's humor I would say....oops....hate it when that shit happens, stupid gun, teach you to backfire!

TRAMMELL!

Um.. okay
This is pretty awful here.. the amount of venom being spewed over this seemingly meaningless diary.  Why are we sitting here and having a huge pissing contest over diaries. If you don't like a diary just don't read it.. if you happen to read it on accident.. don't comment on it.  People are GOING to post diaries.. Why in the process of posting this comment there are 10 diary worthy topics that have crossed my mind.. due to boredom and lack of sleep.

Such examples include:
*Are Colossus and Jim Hendry really related?

  • Where on Earth has Gaius Marius gone.. and what of the Roman Senate?
  • Et tu, Brutus?
  • When will Aramis Ramirez start hustling?
  • Speaking of Aramis, which part of his body will he need massaged next?
Fascinating points of discussion all of them, but seriously guys.. lay off of the diary posters.  We were all new once, and we've all posted meaningless diaries.

The tampon thing
IS COMING TO GET YOU.

No, actually, the tampon thing is funny, because the original post contains an unexpected period, among other things.

this site really has changed
from everybody helpful and nice to is this diary worthy discussion. if this was a bad diary how come it isn't answered? there is about 300 post on the article. I have read 0 so far i thought i could ask the community if they knew. if you don't want to hear more about marquis i have a simple solution don't click on the link named marquis

by roach on Dec 15, 2006 4:30 PM CST reply actions

I was actually curious
Does anyone know what the final deal with Marquis is/will be? Is that $20 million heavy on incentives, or straight up?

Anyhow, I think that it's worthy of a December diary.

by brooklyncub on Dec 16, 2006 12:11 PM CST reply actions

No one knows yet.
If it's anything like most of Hendry's other multiyear deals, it'll be heavily backloaded, with a signing bonus, meaning the actual salary for this season won't likely be that large.

by Al Yellon on Dec 16, 2006 1:44 PM CST up reply actions

Thank You Al
first comment actually addressing the question hopefully the contracts not back loaded.
