Simulated Cubs Game

Alrighty, I need a break from all the rumor-mongering that is going on here. So I went ahead and updated the 2007 Cubs on my XBOX on MVP Baseball 2005. Of course this was before the Daryl Ward acquisition. Sorry.

Anyways, the 2007 Cubs defeated the 2007 Houston Astros 7-3 last night behind 6 strong innings from Ted Lilly, who also struck out 10. Lilly outpitched Roy Oswalt, who we lit up for 7 runs. Lilly did give up solo HR to Carlos Lee and Jason Lane though.

The scoring was capped off by a Jacque Jones grand slam in the 6th inning. (I think he is making a case for staying now!) Soriano added an RBI single and Derosa an RBI double. Izturis was 3 for 4 as well in the 8th hole.

Also, Kerry Wood looked sharp coming in to close the game out in the 9th inning after following Neal Cotts in the 7th and Michael Wuertz in the 8th. Cotts gave up a solo HR as well though.

Anyways, have fun with this.

Thanks..
it was fun.

BTW, I decided to leave Prior in the minors thus far and replace Novoa with Wuertz in the pen.

Izturis 3-for-4?
That proves it's just a simulation.

by Al Yellon on Dec 7, 2006 11:59 AM CST reply actions

It's not impossible...
...for Cesar! to put up a 3-4 game, even if he DOES end up largely blowing goats. The problem of the small sample size.

Don't get too excited.
It was three slapped singles up the middle. One past the diving Biggio.

Play the game again...
... and let us know who wins the second time.

Should
it be Lilly-Oswalt again? Or maybe Lilly-Garland is the proposed deal goes through?

LOL
Hey, how about this matchup: Rich Hill/Andy Pettitte?

by Al Yellon on Dec 7, 2006 1:00 PM CST up reply actions

I forgot to add
that Ramirez and Lee had back-to-back HR robbed by Lane and Tavarez respectively. Amazing defense from the Astros.

And Carlos Lee's HR was only 332 ft into the Crawford Boxes. Sad. Lilly left a changeup out over the plate.

Also, what do we know of Lilly's pitching repertoire? He sure did not seem to throw very hard, but his cutter was nasty in on the righties.

Am I sick or what?

I hope you do what I do......
when I get robbed of a HR when I play MLB 2k6.......I drill the guy the next time he comes to the plate.

How did you update this....
....there are a few players on the roster that are not in the game.
...from a pile of lead paint chips emerged a Cubs fan:(

I took
those fake-named players and edited them to make up for guys missing like Theriot, etc.

If you guys are interested...
I have MLB2k6 edition. I'm playing a new season right now, a geeky friend of mine (doesnt like it when I call him a nerd, apparently geek is the correct appellation) has spent the past month researching and studying stats and has come up with, if you ask me, more than accurate grades for the 2007 players.

He just sent it to me and I'm liking it. I've only played with the Cubs, but given that he's a Yankees fan I'm pretty happy with the job he's done. Nailed Hill, IMO maybe overrated Theriot but overall the man did his research.

If there's any simulation you guys would like me too do, I'd be more than happy to indulge.

GREAT SUCCESS!!!

6-1 for the Cubbies!
Z was taken out in the 8th after allowing a HR and loading the bases, Cotts came and struck out the side. 2 soriano Homers, one Ramirez Gran Slam.
GREAT SUCCESS!!!

I'll play the Uber-Geek in a few weeks...
and set up a near match NL within OOTP. They use Sabermetric type stats. I'll run the season and see was what comes of it. It'll at least be as good as how we pick the BCS...
Off season trading is one of my favorite sports.

Isn't that game with fictitious players?
Don't like those... I hear Baseball Mogul is pretty good.
GREAT SUCCESS!!!

Only if you don't import
the Lahman Baseball Database from baseball1.com.

"...contains complete batting and pitching statistics back to 1871, plus fielding statistics, standings, team stats, managerial records, post-season data..."

Off season trading is one of my favorite sports.
