Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Great Trivia Question.

I know this doesn't have to do with anything going on at the Winter Meetings but I wanted to throw this  out there because someone asked me this and its a really, really good trivia question thats pretty fun. So. Here we go:
If you were to draw a ball diamond, and all the positions. Each position (other than 4 outfielders and 2 first basemen) have had only one person win back to back MVPs. Can you fill in the blanks with the right players? Obviously you can look this up via the internet but its fun to test your smarts. If you get them all right without looking up the answers consider yourself quite intelligent. I'll post the answers tonight. Enjoy.

Pitcher
OK - I'll venture a couple guesses - probably both wrong - I'm not looking anything up:

Guess one: Dennis Eckersley
Guess two: Sandy Koufax

It's hard
to think of any pitcher who was voted MVP even once, let alone twice. I know Willie Hernandez won it in 1984, but that was a one-time thing. I'll keep thinking.

Wow
I didn't ever think of guessing Newhowser. He was a flash in the pan, wasn't he?

by danimal15 on Dec 8, 2006 8:48 AM CST reply actions

You're kidding, right?
Hal Newhouser was a 207-game winner in the major leagues; three times he won 25 or more games, and had ERA's of 2.22, 1.81 and 1.94 in those years.

The rest of his career was middling, but he did pitch 17 major league seasons.
