Sad News

ESPN is reporting the death of Juan Uribe in a car crash while at home in the Dominican Republic.  This is sad news, and I think all Chicago fans should pause for a moment to remember him.  When something sad like this happens, we should stop for a moment to think about our families and loved ones and try to remember to appreciate them each day.

as posted above...
its not juan, and if you are going to post something, you should read the article/fine print first. jose is a distant relative to juan, but regardless it still is sad news.

Yes
This is NOT the White Sox shortstop, but rather a shortstop that many of us remember from the Giants of the 1980s.  He was on the 1989 Giant team that most of us over 25 probably remember pretty well.

The other thing I remember about Uribe was that he was originally known as Jose Gonzalez (his full name being Jose Altagarcia Gonzalez Uribe) but asked to be known as Jose Uribe because "There are already too many Gonzalezes in baseball."

He was a good glove, no-hit shortstop, of which baseball has had many.

He was a teammate of Bob Brenly's.

Condolences to his friends and family.

What I remember...
... is when Uribe changed his name, the pundits called him "the player who was named later".

Well, it was funny then, anyway.
