nothing to do with sports but does have to do with IL

A man was arrested in the Chicago area on Friday for allegedly plotting to attack Rockford, Ill., over the holidays, officials told NBC News.

The plan involved a bombing and a shooting, the officials said.

The man had no accomplices and was not part of a terrorist cell, sources said on condition of anonymity. He will be appearing in court later Friday, NBC's Pete Williams reported.

The FBI has been aware of the plot and has been monitoring him closely, Williams reported. The plan was allegedly ideologically motivated. No other details were released, but authorities said the arrest eliminated the risk of the attack being carried out.

WTF?
I live in Rockford. I can't imagine what in the world this guy has against Rockford of all places.

Just a wild guess, but he must have been mad at a former employer.....

Isn't this a baseball website?
Usually, the Cubs are depressing enough...do we really have to talk about blowing up Rockford?

Heres the new story
http://www.suntimes.com/news/165607,1208_terror.article

A Rockford man is being held on terrorism-related charges after he allegedly targeted a shopping mall.
Derrick Shareef, 22, targeted the Cherry Vale shopping mall in Rockford, FBI spokesman Tom Simon said.

Shareef allegedly dealt with an undercover FBI agent, trading stereo speakers for hand grenades.

That has to be Cherry Vale
No point in blowing up Machesney. No one goes there anymore.

Lol
So true Julie, that place is always empty.

Still sort of shocking to me though. I live in Rockford and go to CherryVale all the time. I hope he rots in prison.

I'll let this go this time...
... but I'm thinking this is the sort of thing that really doesn't belong here, even in a "non-baseball" diary.

I'm inclined to agree
Especially given the relatively mundane nature of this news.

I Am More...
...concerned about something like this rather than a strike on a "big" target.  A nothing mall in a nothing city on a nothing day.  (And I lived in Roscoe and attended Rockford College).

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
