Should the Cubs waste their time with Grissom?

"That was a good test for me today," Grissom said. "I'm feeling pretty good. I'm going to try to make it to Thursday -- cut-down time -- and see what happens. It's more the mental aspect of the game to me. Do I want to do it? Do I want to put the work in every day?"

This was a quote taken from Grissom's post game interview after the Cubs/Sox game yesterday.

It would seem to me that the question ought not to be do I want to do it every day but...am I physically able to do it every day.

Now I think most of us know that his chances of making the club are slim, especially with Pagan playing so well.  However, my question is, should his question really be, "Do I want to do it every day"?

I would hope that if there is some (almost) 40 year old dude trying to land a spot on the 40 man roster, that he is busting his ass every single day so that he "gets" to play baseball this season with the Cubs.

If that is really his question at this point, I think I have his answer...

No he doesn't want to do it everyday because those who DO want to do it everyday, don't have to ask this question.  This is the difference between him and Maddux.  Maddux is out there again because he dreads the day that he can't trot out there to play major league ball anymore...he doesn't have to ask this question.  For him, it is a matter of CAN he physically do it anymore, IMO.

Anyone else think this is a wierd thing to be asking at this point in ST?
