Eamus Catuli! Sign

What are the numbers supposed to be this year that shows "the year of the cubs?"
My calculations show it should be 026097, though it was 016097 last year.
Does anyone know what it is? If it where 026198, that would mean that there have been 2 years since the playoffs, 61 yrs since the world series, and 98 years since the title. The 2 seems correct, but the 61 and 98 seem a year high, because that tells us that the 2006 season is over, not just begining.
Does anyone have some insight?

Eamus Ursuli!
So I was chatting with a buddy who is a classics professor...  Turns out "Eamus Catuli" does means "Let's go Panther Cubs"... We are Bear Cubs!!! so, in reality, the sign should read "Eamus Ursuli!"

Nothing like an actual translation to spoil the fun eh?

Well it can be amusing
You have JFK telling the people of Berlin that he
was Jelly Donut "Ich bin ein Berliner"
but my all time favorite was sign for Pepsi in
Hong Kong some years ago that was SUPPOSSED to
be a translation of their slogan " Come Alive with
the Pepsi Generation" Alas Cantonese being a language
of a lot of nuance it got translated as
"Pepsi will Bring Your Dead Ancestors Back from
the Grave"  I guess that is why I only drink Coke
Did not stay up long

chevy could never figure out why the Nova didn't sell in latin america, until they realized that No Va mean No Go in espanol.

And another one
Remember the Perdue Chicken slogan " It takes a tough
man to make a tender chicken?" Well they must have hired
the world's worst Spanish translator as the Spanish ads
went out as " It takes a sexually excited man to make
a tender chicken"

Coke in China
When Coca Cola was first marketed in China in 1928, they just chose Chinese characters which could be phonetically read "KO-ka KO-la" - so someone saying it would sound like they were saying "Coca Cola".

Unfortunately, nobody researched what the characters would mean when put together, so they put up signs in China reading "Bite the Wax Tadpole".

Niiice.

The correct numbers should be...
... 036198. I haven't seen it in a while, but the numbers were wrong for quite some time because they didn't change the "00" they put up after the division-clinching in 2003, for the entire 2004 season.

We'll see if it's right come Opening Day.

by Al Yellon on Mar 29, 2006 11:24 AM CST reply actions

yeah but...
shouldn't the numbers show how many division titles, pennents, and world series titles have been won since the Cubs last won? during the 2004 season, the first numbers should be 00 untill the cardinals won the division, then it moves up to 1 because 1 title had been won since the cubs won.
Thats the way I see it. Then, when we win it all, we get a full season of zeros, not a season of 010101.

Yabbut...
... 2004 was still 1 year since the Cubs won in 2003. The problem was, they changed the OTHER numbers but not the division title numbers.

Thus, they weren't consistent.

no...
the 03 is inconsistant to the 60 and 97. it should be either 026097 or 036198.
