Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

Open Thread: White Cubs vs. Priests, Saturday 4/1

Since the White Cubs' team colors have not yet been determined, all their players will appear on today's telecast in black and white. Of course, many of you may not see it as the WGN outsourcing to India is not yet complete; workers are feverishly running the cans and string across the Pacific and Indian Oceans right now.

Meanwhile, the W.C.'s should a distinct advantage, I'd think, because of the Priests' unusual uniforms, pictured below.

 Today's Starting Pitchers

Priests
2-0 W-L 1-0
3.60 ERA 1.17

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Question regarding MLBTV
I just bought the MLB.TV package and was all psyched and everything, but when I click on the Cubs-Padres link all I get is a white screen.  I checked just to make sure and I'm not in a blackout area so anybody know what gives?

In Game.....
Cubs off to a good start in first inning. 2-0 with 2 outs. Murton has an RBI.

When Bellhorn "bare handed" that ball, was a clank heard 'round the park?

Walked in a Third Run
Cedeno walks, forcing in a run. Maddux up. Big ovation.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:29 PM CST reply actions

Oh welll
Maddux strikes out.

It is VERY windy in Vegas. The CF camera is constantly shaking.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:30 PM CST reply actions

Through 2 innings
Cubs 2, Priests 0

Maddux has retired all six batters he's faced.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:35 PM CST reply actions

Maddux done?
just two innings?

Pierre...
...singles off the ptichwer, steals second on Piazza.

Walker...
....hits a double, bringing home Pierre

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:40 PM CST reply actions

im liking
the pierre  walker combo-

hopefully walker just zips his trap and toes the line so we dont trade him

by ksucubbie on Apr 1, 2006 2:41 PM CST reply actions

Lee ...
....grounds out, Walker holding. It's 3-0 Cubs, one out in top of 3rd. Len and Bob gushing about Pierre.

Well...
... it means that Matt Murton will have to change his first name to Mathieu.

Rusch Pitching..
..aims for the knob of Sledge's bat, strike one. Brenly claims Sledge trying to use the knob instead of the other end.

Already Len and Bob Are Bored....
....they're talking about breaking wind at Wrigley.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:51 PM CST reply actions

And It's A Double Play...
....to end the inning. Liner to Ramirez who doubles off Sledge at first. Love to tell ya more particulars but frankly, I was not paying attention.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:53 PM CST reply actions

Len Nice Enough...
...to repeat for me. Dave Roberts was the one who hit into a double play. 5-0 Cubs as we go to the top of the 4th.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:55 PM CST reply actions

Murton
is quite simply a hitting machine

if nomar hadnt gotten hurt that trade would have went down as one of hendrys best fleecings and as it stands it still might

KSUCubbie

by ksucubbie on Apr 1, 2006 2:56 PM CST reply actions

Well Well Well
Murton one hops the fence for a ground rule double. Whoever Dewey Brzaelton is, he is NOT the answer to the Padres' starting rotation problems. No outs.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:56 PM CST reply actions

Cedeno
More or less sacs Murton to 3rd. Brenly nominates Cedeno for the Hall.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:57 PM CST reply actions

Matt Murton for Vlad and Ervin Santana

KSUCubbie

Seriously though....
...you wouldn't do Lee for Murton, Hill and Guzman?

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 2:59 PM CST up reply actions

no
why? Murton will come close to matching Lee at a fraction of the cost

To me Pie has less value than Murton- use him instead

KSUCubbie

by ksucubbie on Apr 1, 2006 3:00 PM CST up reply actions

Well...
...different strokes I guess. I'd do it.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 3:01 PM CST up reply actions

After seeing Pie in person
this spring, I'm more sold on him than I was. He needs a year of triple A at least, but in the field, that guy is already Willie Mays. You can't coach that kind of speed.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 3:03 PM CST up reply actions

Whoops
Murton not quite ready for Hall himself, gets caught in a rundown.

by BeerCub on Apr 1, 2006 3:08 PM CST reply actions

wtf was that pop up?
Barrett loses a pop-up in the sun. 5-2 Cubs.

Bizarro Ball Continues....
...in a play you'll on the news tonight, Bellhorn skies a pop up at home plate that no one sees, and it drops in fair territory in front of home, scoring a run. Everyone is safe.

My 06 Thoughts
I feel both optimistic and dread at the same time about this 06 season.  I'm excited we actually have a lead-off guy which I can't recall the last time we have..  Bobby D perhaps, way back when?? Hmm..  Our pitchers look like they'll be all ready by late May or June so hopefully they others can hang on until the cavalry arrives.  I'm glad SI picked us 4th instead of "The CUBS WILL WIN THE WORLD SERIES" this year so we can fly under the radar.  I think the Cubs thrive best in low expectation seasons.   Teams then take them for granted and they usually do well.  I'm just glad 06 is here..  Go Cubs!!  This April Fools day thing is really rough and it's painful to see black and white..  Yuck..  Funny tho' and you had me until I noticed a calendar..

by NorthernLights1972 on Apr 1, 2006 3:56 PM CST reply actions

SO....
...Federico Baez, who was on Puerto Rico's WBC team, now pitching in the 7th for the Cubs. He promptly gives up a triple to Justin Leone, who will spend this season making spaghetti westerns in Italy.

I've returned home
and have flipped on the tape of today's game -- unfortunately, I have failed to account for extra innings. (I should join the 21st Century, and purchase a TiVo.) Anyway, the first play I see is that 'clank' in LF by Buck Coates and Matt Vasgergian says "What in the name of Brant Brown is going on here?" I promptly turn the tape off, and thank Cox Communications and the Padres for not letting that ninny out of his contract when WGN had interest in his services upon the departure of Chipper. Len & Bren are quite adequate upon compairison to this smug, no-talent twerp who is hoping for the retirement of Vin Scully, so he can vulture his way into that gig....

No Way...
....Vasgersian will never do Dodger play by play. Charley Steiner, in all his somnambulent glory, has the very inside track on that job.

Dont worry
Tivo aint that smart either.  It doesn't account for extra innings either.  That being said, I would reccommend all people get a DVR of some sort...it is so convenient once you learn the ins and outs (such as extra innings preparation).
Anyone can have a bad century...

What a sad story
Check out Wood and Prior in cowboy hats. If only they could fall in love with eachother and nurse themselves back to health and a World Series then we would have a real story. But as it looks now they are just a coulpe of broken cowboys.

See ya round Al
April fool is over. You can delete my login if you want. See you next year. I hope you guys see a lot of Black the rest of this year.

Truth be told I'd love to see the Sox play the Cubs in the World Series this year.

I'll leave it right there. Take care.
