A Couple of Cards Fan's Take on the DLee Injury

It is probably no surprise to anyone that some Cards fans are really excited that DLee is injured.

http://www.vivaelbirdos.com/story/2006/4/20/13812/3809

No doubt we would feel fortunate if Pujols was injured.  I was a little irritated that the posters felt that we Cub fans would use it as an excuse if we lose and rub it in if we win w/o DLee.  Injuries are a part of baseball and we are all accustomed to them.  I'm sure that some Cub fans will do as the poster suggests, nevertheless, I will always rub it in if we win. . . . . they do.

It's like a Cub fan saying that when the Cards lose, their fans are going to use their lousy bullpen as an excuse, or if they win, rub it in that they won despite having a horrible bullpen.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Who cares what a few Bird-Watcher thinks
I respect the Cardinals as an organization and have cheered next to a many Bird-watcher fanatic at Wrigley or old Busch and even have met their current manager for a brief handshake.

But in reality the Bird-watchers are simply fanatics, and will revel in anything they believe will advantage their fanaticism SO WHAT....

Bill Veeck planted Ivy during 'The Depression', and over time the Ivy Walls has become the most distinct symbol of Wrigley Field.

cardinals
im less concerned about the cardinals and their fans and more concerned with how this team will respond to what has taken place.

You guys are probably right
I shouldn't care what Cardinals fans think, but pretty much all of my friends are Red Bird fans and I have been getting emails from them all morning.  My friends as well as that diary got me a little irritated.  Deep Breath . . . . and let it go.  Thanks for putting things back into perspective.

I understand
what you mean, its hard to not get overly defensive when its shoved down your throat every day

but how sweet would it be for you if the Cubs won the series

A measured response is proper
As a Cardinals fan, I can't help but pleased to some degree at anything that makes their winning more likely.  Certainly, not having Derrek Lee in the Cubs' lineup makes it more likely that the Cardinals will win this weekend's games.

But OTOH, I can't in good conscience be excited about a potentially serious injury to a great athlete who seems to be a genuinely good guy.

So here's hoping that Lee is healthy and back in the Cubs lineup Monday.

I'd have wrote
the same thing you just posted if the player in question was Mr. Pujols.  Why on earth would you want to see Lee in the line-up against your team?  Well said.
One day, the dream will come true.

Wait A Minute...
..As a true sportsman, OF COURSE you mean that here's hoping he's back in the line up this FRIDAY.

Re
A true sportsman wants to compete against the best, not hope for his return after the opportunity to do so has past.

Consider the source.

Then I guess that puts
our host here (Al) in the same boat as me.

Last July, he wrote that "With Scott Rolen pulling out of playing in the All-Star Game due to a nagging shoulder injury (and though I hate seeing anyone hurt, if this hurts the Cardinals' offense in the 2nd half, gee, what a shame)"
