Quotes of the Year

Somebody should keep track of all the crazy quotes Cubs personnel make throughout the season, and at the end of the year we can vote on the goofiest one.

For example, Zambrano's quote, on the front page here, is pretty funny. I've thought that Zambrano's problems this season have been because he's thinking too much, but apparently astronomy isn't what he's focusing on.

Another one that killed me was a story on the Cubs homepage awhile back about Jones' slump. He said something to the effect of, "I know what they're trying to do. They're trying to walk me, but I won't let them." And then he later said it would help if he'd draw some walks. Geez, put two and two together there, Jacque.

And if someone really got into it, I'm sure we could have enough from Dusty that he could have his own division in such a vote. I don't know, if it sounds like fun, maybe someone can take it up. It may help if someone who keeps track of various Chicago media stayed on top of it.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

At first
I thought you meant the craziest quote posted on HERE. I was going to vote for the "let's trade Pie for Sweeney" post or the entire thread arguing over whether or not gauis was calling southerncubbie gay by saying "the lady doth protest too much."

LOL

LOL
Hahaha, I'm still laughing over that one.  Especially the explanation of it... "No, if he said lady because that's what the quote is... if he said the dude doth protest too much...."

I like it
Maybe we can just start a thread to keep track of them?

"What's that called? ...Yeah, an eclipse."

If someone wants to do that in this diary...
... please feel free, we can always come back to it later.

I replaced the Z quote today, but I'm sure someone can find it and post it here.

JDay, please retitle this diary to something related to quotes so it is easy to find. Thanks.

I know I often confuse Dusty with Sun Tzu
As I started writing this I noticed another diary mentioned Baker's comments to the media about Michael Barrett's sprained finger, but I thought worth mentioning was not only the amusing concept of Dusty Baker, War Strategist, but also Barrett's great retort.

Anyway...in Friday's Tribune Baker said he was irritated that Barrett revealed his injury, thus "telling war secrets" to opposing teams. "I showed him a couple of books I have about strategy and war and different things. He said, 'Oh, I have that book.' And I said, 'Well, maybe you need to read it.'"

According to the Trib, Barrett was later asked if Baker had schooled him on war strategy. "Yeah, we went through a little of that. We've got 'em fooled now."

If your going to do quotes of the year...
Maybe you could include the great Dusty-isms from the last 3.5 years - the "clogging the bases" and "they take the heat better" would be my first nominations for the Hall.

I enjoyed
Bob and Len talking about Aardsma yesterday.

"There's no question about his stuff out on the mound, it's just a question of whether he can consistently throw strikes."

Ummm.....yeah.  That's an important one.

Strikes are entirely overrated
other pitchers don't have to throw them to the cubs to get our hitters out.

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
