Glen-DONE

A few tips for the struggling Cub lefty

Star-divide

For years I thought this guy was just what the Cubs needed and he proved useful that last two years...but this year, wow, what a waste (I'm writing this after 2 long balls in 1st to give Milw 3-0 lead Sat. afternoon).

I don't know if I've ever seen a pitcher throw more fat pitches right over the heart of the plate. Even the strikes he throws look highly hittable...How about moving the ball around,  throwing some balls low away, inside and high, etc? We can't afford to give away games and every time this guy starts now it feels like a probable defeat.

The announcers esp. BB like to say he's the sort of pitcher who has to "be able to spot his pitches.'' I think that means have pinpoint command/control and Rusch hasn't been close all spring, all season (4 good innings vs. St L and a win vs. Pitt notwithstanding).

Maybe he'll turn it around or our offense will give him tons of support, but I'm worried long-term since we're locked in contractually for another year after this. Lefties are usually in demand so maybe we could find another desperate-for-pitching team to take him, I'd rather have Rich Hill in there now while we wait for Wood-Prior-Miller to return *(if all 3 do, there may not be a spot for Glen-done).

Could see him going to pen as long man but won't be very effective there either unless he learns to spot his pitchers better. And MOVE THE BALL AROUND a little bit, OK?

Rusch or Crush en'Long coming to the end
Marshall appears to have taken his projected spot in the rotation once Wood OR Prior returns and Guzman appears to have taken whatever spot Williams had.

Crush en'Long will probably be dealt in a deal where the Cubs will probably have to pay this year's salary and a team with a big need will swallow next year's salary.

Bill Veeck planted Ivy during 'The Depression', and over time the Ivy Walls has become the most distinct symbol of Wrigley Field.

Good News for Rusch
GOOD NEWS: Jewel-Osco is hiring
BAD NEWS: He's going to have to compete with Aaradsma for a job.

No Rusch to judgement
This guy is atrocious. Moves like this by Hendry that make me question Hendry's decision making and keep him out of Elite class of GM's. I've never seen a pitcher so predictable and I stopped watching Cub games since Sept. last year when he takes the mound cuz I loathe his very presence on the mound and now the Cubs are stuck with this catastrophe.

The Cubs got lucky milking what they got out of him and failed to realize this and instead signed him to a 2 year deal. D'OH! WTG James.

Satan's waitin Glendon. Best eat all the chicken you can now, cuz there aint gonna be none where your gonna, buddy.

Lets be fair
How can you all say that Glendon doesn't still have pinpoint control. He was hitting those thin wooden sticks with authority all day long. They don't call it the sweet spot for nothing....yeah, thats sweet aim.

Guaranteed --
G Rusch, will eventually be in the Padres rotation. That team's ace can't even win anymore.
There's a desperate team. Not the Cubs.

Well...
if Peavy can't win, and Rusch can't win maybe they should just swap pitchers.  A change of scenery may help 'em out.

If only that really was possible.

Cubbie Blue always sPaRkLes in my eyes.

If only it was possible
to trade Rusch, period. Who the hell would want this guy? NOONE. Atleast not for 2 years anyway.

 Cubbies are stuck with him.

we could
always package him in a deal....

What?
Like in brown craft paper or christmas gift wrap? I guess that way other GMs wouldn't know who they were getting and perhaps they'd take the risk.

Actually
was thinking UPS, but yeah I s'pose that works. Don't know who'd want that even in their bullpen, but why not.

I had nightmares
last night and was told I was kicking in my sleep and yelling out "Rusch!" and "Aardsma!" , "Nooooo!!"  "Find the strike zone!"  "And Murton's run out of room..."

There's nothing I can say about yesterday's game.  Nothing at all.

Except that I really don't like Bob and Len. They might as well be announcers for the Brewers.  They were just pissing me off saying things like, "When you have so many homeruns in one game, it's hard to keep track of them!" and "Man, I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but the Brewers have another homerun".

What?  The only time they decide to have a sense of humor is when they're putting salt in the wound of Cubs fans?  They are so boring to listen to I feel like a Saturday Night Live parody is just around the corner.  "Yeah, good times, Bob. Good times"

I wasn't going to drink yesterday
but for some reason after watching batting practice...i mean the first 3 innings....I was staring at a half empty fifth of jack daniels. Glendon Rusch may be the reason that I have liver failure at the age of 24.

by Foley on Apr 30, 2006 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Wow.
That's rough.  Speaking of Jack Daniels, I wonder if you could sue Glendon for damages?  Any thoughts from any of the 47 lawyers on this site?

I think I underestimated...
You'd be surprised at how many attorneys comprise this community!  It's quite comforting, actually.  I'd say for Al too, since we're probably going to get hit with some slander issues one of these days because one of us got into it with Chuck! Sorry Al!! :(
We'll keep it to a dull roar!

you'd be surprised
If it wasn't for his salary, trading Rusch would probably be a lot easier than you think. I've seen worse starters than Rusch get traded during a season. If the Cubs picked up his salary, I think he could be moved pretty easily.

And even though he's stinking up the joint right now, I don't think saying he's going to hell because of it is very funny.

But maybe Rusch and Zambrano should compare notes. Rusch leaves too many balls out over the plate, and Zambrano can't find the plate half the time. Maybe they should find a happy medium.

Then again, Rusch should maybe find a happy medium on his own.

"If it takes forever."

It's not his salary
that makes him untradeable, it's the length of his contract.
