Opening Day should be Sunday

As fun as the Cubs win today was, something is sticking in my crawl.

I think it's poor marketing by MLB to start the season on a Monday.  Why couldn't they start one day earlier on a Sunday?  There were six games televised today and the nation is celebrating the return of baseball.  Yet, most of the nation has jobs and couldn't watch any of it.  Productivity was down across the nation as many fans skipped work or ignored work in an attempt to catch the game.  Why?  Stupid people in charge.  Then they have the gall to schedule an off-day for Tuesday.  Way to build momentum there, Bud.  Start on a Sunday and make the first or second series a four-game series.  Scheduling conflict solved, higher TV ratings, fans happy.  It's a win-win-win.

Oh well, I'm not going to let stupid scheduling get me down.  Cubs win!  Cubs Win!  Cubs Win!

Oh yeah...
Not to mention tonight was up against the NCAA Tournament Men's final, think anyone was watching that?  In addition, last night's White Sox opener was on ESPN2 in standard def while the Woman's Tourney was on ESPNHD.  Terrible scheduling.

I don't agree
I like opening day on monday. while not everyone can see the games, there is a definite vibe in the air on opening day. People talk baseball around the water cooler, at school, etc. Baseball permeates the facets of every day life. I like it the way it is. I'd say that most of my friends had some mention of opening day in their AIM away messages.

As for the Sunday thing, yeah, that was a joke. The game should have been on ESPN, but I'm sure that was more about not pissing off people. However I think that by the time tonights championship game had rolled around, people were pretty into baseball and the season had started. I think the championship game was an afterthought.

the NCAA game stunk.

I agree with mikej
If baseball was on Sunday, people would be sitting around the water cooler on monday talking about the games they got to see instead of talking about all the games they wish they were watching instead of being at work.

tradition
Opening Day has traditionally been on a Monday, I believe, and traditionally the first game is a home game in Cincinnati. It's only with the recent advent of ESPN that they started playing a single game the Sunday night before.

yeah but...
...of all the traditions they've gotten rid of, this is one people would miss the least.  And they dropped the Cincinnati thing years ago.  Might as well make it complete.
