As a general rule, team's don't turn around seasons when they play this poorly. There are exceptions to the rule, but they are just that - exceptions. The only way this team can be an exception to the rule would be if they shake things up in a major way. In other words, by CANNING DUSTY and calling up the kids. Let Pie and Montanez enter OF platoons with Murton and Jones. Trade Jones and Pierre in mid-June. Showcase Wade Miller and see if anyone wants to trade for him. Bottom line, get some fresh bodies in there that aren't tainted by all this losing. But most important is CAN DUSTY and light a fire under this team! There's a tiny iota of a chance of making this season a successful one, but it gets smaller every day this mental midget is at the helm.

Furthermore, if they don't turn it around and make a push towards .500 and being a contender (much more likely), then we should be going with a youth movement anyways. If that happens, i don't want Dusty anywhere near our young players teaching them not to have plate discipline and to nibble the corners when on the mound. Oh, i also don't want him playing Neifi, Jones, Pierre, and Mabry over kids when we need to find out what the future is like. Finally, i think his laissez-faire attitude isn't what this team needs anymore.

So, if you think the season is done, we should can Dusty.

If you think we still have a shot at being the 2003 Marlins, or the '04 or '05 Astros, we should can Dusty.

Who should we hire? Well, lets see... Von Joshua and Bob Brenly would be suitable in-house candidates, and Davey Johnson would be a great guy to hire from outside the organization. I'd even prefer Jim Hendry at this point, just to give him a chance to see what he can do with the team HE assembled. Worst case scenario is the team tanks it even more with Hendry at the helm, in which case there's a light at the end of the tunnel that comes from his potential dismissal. Almost anyone we hire will be better than the guy we have. So, i submit to all of you a modest proposal for the Cubs: CAN DUSTY!
