Alex Gonzalez retires

I wish him well.

Gonzalez had a .243 career average with 137 home runs and 536 RBI. He was the starting shortstop on the Cubs when they advanced to the postseason in 2003 and hit a career-high 20 homers that season.

No word on when he'll buy the the car he owes to Steve Bartman.

Sorry,
he won't be missed. His career effectively ended in Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS.

No great loss
he really did seem to go  downhill after the -03 LCS before  then was known for clutch HR's and steady fielding...he's not that old, is  he?? Hope  it won't end like Donnie Hill (name?) Angels reliever...Cubs made big upgrade at SS with Nomar and now Cedeno (forget Neiffi) and A-Gon became backup...maybe he'll stay in baseball seemed like good Major Leaguer until he gagged in that big spot.

Hill had other problems
This is Buckner-esque.

You did, of course, mean..
... Donnie Moore, who allowed a HR that cost the Angels an ALCS game in 1986.

He never got over it and eventually committed suicide. Very sad story.

We remember his horrible moment...
booting the tailor-made double play ball in Game 6....but I'm sure he does too. It's too bad for all of us that that's how we remember him. In his time in a Cub uniform i thought he was always a plus defensive shortstop (with some timely pop in his bat) with the exception of  that play.

What?
No, that was when he got too old for Menudo.
