Some bleacher trivia...

Okay, I know that the bleachers are usually general admission, but I recall that during playoff (those rare occasions)there is assigned seating. Does anyone know what those old bleacher section numbers were? I think they've been changed this year. Just curious and thought some of your veterans of the bleachers might be able to help out.

Yes, I know this.

Left field section numbers were 150-153.

Right field section numbers were 143-147.

148 and 149 would have been where the juniper bushes used to be.

Center field was 246, 247 and 248.

Yes, playoff seating was assigned seating. This is because MLB mandates reserved seats for all postseason games, which are run under the auspices of MLB, not the clubs.

Here is the current seating chart showing the new section numbers: 301-306 for LF, 337-342 for CF, 311-315 for RF, and 316-318 for the "bleacher boxes".

The bleacher boxes, since they are reserved seats, have section, row and seat numbers. SOME of the other sections have section numbers. But no numbers - either seat or row - have yet been painted on the benches.

I think that covers everything.

Great info
Al, I knew you'd come through. Any idea why they changed the seating numbers in the bleachers? Is it because of the bleacher renovation?

Yes...
... it's because of the renovations. They could have kept the same numbers -- the only additions to the bleachers in terms of sections, are the three sections to the left of the well in LF, what used to be the family section.

The other new seats were just added on to existing sections.

But I guess they wanted to "start fresh". They even renumbered the CF seats, which weren't touched.

Side Note
back in the early 80's, when the Cubs used to sell bleachers for opening day only early, they were also reserved seating.   Don't believe me?  See an usued bleacher ticket that I have from 1980 (and note, the sections were different back then from what Al mentioned - they are based on the old seating chart with sections that was used before Tribune bought the Cubs and Dallas Green and company changed things around).
