This time it counts?

Apparently, baseball and the players' union have not been able to reach an agreement that will give home-field advantage to the winner of this year's All-Star game.

It would be a shame if that ridiculous idea were to just go away.  I know it won't happen, but, hey, I can dream...

Award HFA to the team that finishes the season with the best record, alternate it between leagues, flip a coin, pick a random Red Sox-Yankees game (based on early ballots, it looks like the Red Sox and Yankees are going to decide it anyway--surprised FOX hasn't asked to replace the All-Star game with a Red Sox-Yankees exhibition)... any of those would be a better option.

Actually...
... here's a way to make interleague play more meaningful. Give the home field in the WS to the league that wins more interleague games.

I actually really like that idea, Al...
because I hate using the Allstar game to decide, and even giving home field advantage to the team with the best record is somewhat unfair, because the team with the best record might benefit from being in a weaker league or division (or both).

Using the league with the best record in interleague play is a good yardstick to measure which league is stronger, and more deserving of home field advantage.

Both ideas are still better than using the allstar game.

Excellent idea...
and, since I'm guessing there are an even number of interleague games, you can still use the All-Star game to break a tie (however unlikely that might be).  That way FOX won't have to completely redo their All-Star game promos:

"The 2006 All-Star game!  This time it counts (a little bit)!"

A.  Don't give them any ideas.

B.  It's funny because it's true!

If...
... the All-Star game was on ESPN, they would DEFINITELY do this.
