Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Our new starting LEFT fielder...

is Freddie Bynum. I can understand platooning Matt Murton, but with Bynum? That's a sick joke. If he should platoon with anyone, its Felix Pie.

And yes, Bynum is only "platooning" but when you're the lefty side of a platoon, you're going to see the vast majority of the ABs. Please get rid of Dusty Baker... he's the wrong fit for a team that needs to develop its young talent in an effort to build for the future. Bring in one of the minor league managers that's been successful with young player development, and get rid of Dusty. All he's going to do at this point is stunt their growth for the sake of a senseless and futile run at .500. Our hitting coach is teaching poor plate discipline, our pitching coach has squandered away the best throwing talent in baseball, and now our manager is going to bench one of our best young position players (if not our best young position player) for an "athlete" whose career OPS is below .700.

Wow.

This...
is sad.  Maybe Murton should get traded to a place where they will give him a chance AND help him develop.

I HATE platoons.  I like to have a consistent starters and a lineup, but that's something I'm apparently never going to see.  I'm OK with platoons if they are necessary and playing Bynum is not necessary. While Dubois may have not been good, the platoon last year didn't help him.  This is only going to hurt Orange Guy.

I don't want Murton to turn into Dubois.  I really don't.

Cubbie Blue will always sPaRkLe in my eyes, but please stop losing. PLEASE!

agree
I agree with everything you just said.

This is so pointless it isn't even funny.  If Bynum had shown some sort of potential at being successful in his limited time, then maybe this make sense.  While Murton hasn't lit the world on fire, Bynum has simply put the fire out.

backwards
Usually when you are falling out of contention, you give your young kids a look to see what they have.  Bynum has no chance of starting anywhere, why not continue to see what you have w/murton?  There is no downside to giving him a full year.  I guess Dusty feels that bynum might give them the boost to get back into the race, what a joke...

That's not Baker's style.
He said last year, when the Cubs fell out of contention, that he "owed" it to the Veterans to continue to play them.  He expressly said it was not "fair" to take the ball out of Neffi's hands.   Is this a good strategy?  Who knows.   But to say that "you give your young kids a look" when you are falling out of contention is just not true -- at least if you are the Cubs.

regardless of whether its the right thing to do...
It's what's going to happen. I've accepted the fact that this is the way it's going to be for awhile. It's actually made it easier to watch games.

OMG
Just saw this. This is a total crock of shit. Fire this prick NOW. I don't CARE WHO YOU REPLACE HIM WITH. All the talk is "Well, if we fire him, who do we replace him with?" Who gives a shit? This douchebag is killing this team, starting with Kerry Wood and continuing on to Mark Prior, Corey Patterson, and soon to be Carlos Zambrano, Matt Murton, Ronny Cedeno, and anybody else he can who doesn't lick his nuts. There has got to be at least 20 guys out there who can perform this job without ruining every young player in the organization. PICK ONE OUT OF A HAT AND GET RID OF THIS IDIOT.
