Not cool
to put up this poll at Chuck's request just so they can continue to laugh at us over at 1060 West. I used to love gaius and frequently defended him over here, but frankly, some of the diatribes over there regarding this site are really cruel and uncalled for.

blah, blah, blah from the 1060 side
Look, Gaius is an idiot who occassionally had a salient point.

Chuck is an idiot who likes to argue.

1060 is a blog that embraces every Cub fans' right to bitch and complain and moan. To think that the team's failures are some sort of big conspiracy. I don't like that attitude, and I don't read their crap. They are the south side to BCB's north side.

Still, their opinions are their opinions, and who am I to tell them they are wrong. All I can do is not read them and not go to that blog. I stay here because I like the insightful conversation, because life is really too short to debate whether or not the great Neifi-conspiracy is designed to simply remove money from the fan's wallets.

It's baseball, folks. It's a game. It is designed to inspire passion and heartbreak. It is life.

I agree
But this poll was specifically requested by Chuch and sparkles put it up for him.

From 1060 West:

Sparks:

Do that and include the following responses:

  1. Yes, I like being lied to.
  2. No, I hate being lied to.
  3. The Cubs don't lie to us.
At BTI, #3 wins going away.

I don't care what they post over there. Call us "Care Bears," call Al all kinds of obscene names, whatever. Actually, I agree with gaius 95% of the time. But when a poll is specifically designed and posted to make fun of people, I think people should know before they respond and take it seriously.

Big Surprise
Of course No. 3 would win, because the poll is horribly flawed and incomplete. It is kind of like asking somebody "When are you going to stop beating your wife."

Doesn't hurt that they are padding the vote. Gaius and Chuck are bullies. Let them think they are cool. It probably makes up for their shortcomings in other areas.

Man...
I rarely visit 1060, unless their slurs are mentioned here...which seems more often than not.

More and more I believe Piven was referring to them.  I'm gonna give their disposition a shot and see how i feel...

The Cubs suck...I was right all along!...wow that's gratifying. (/sarcasm)

I think everyone knew the Cubs were a longshot before the season started, but I thought the point of being a fan is enjoying and hopin for a teams success, not their failure.  Everything had to fall into place for that to happen.  Instead, the fragile makeup of this team fell apart.  No big surprise.  That's where my joy ends.  Not in their case.  I could stand he who shall not be named's (part deux) strong injection of pessimism and arrogance here and there when he visited here, but the full dose over there just makes me sick.

What troll's...How did their heads not explode in 2003?

If this is the way it's going to be then so be it, if ya'll gotta hide behind a girl and take your shots that's cool man, ya'll gotta keep runnin your mouth behind our backs, that's cool, ya'll can't be men and ask us your damn selves, I did have respect for all ya'll, but you couldn't leave it alone could you?

At least have the balls to ask us your damn self.

I'm sorry Al, forgive me.

I think some of you have been too hard on Sparkles.  If you look at the thread at 1060, she was sticking up for the folks who call this home.

Chuck, who some of you feel is a pain in the ass, put the "poll questions" out there and, IMHO, Sparkles believed she was doing the right thing.

Personally, I don't find the questions offensive.  Some of the inhabitants of BCB still believe the Cubs after the lies regarding the injuries, Sammy, Trainergate and Announcergate.

For as negative as some feel the folks at 1060 are, they feel that the BCB'ers are too positive. It takes all kinds.

I'd love to hear from Sparkles
on how this transpired as I choose not to go the their web sites.  Care to share?

I'd give her some leeway Sparkles has always been a supporter of BCB.  Say it ain't so Sparkles that you have migrated to the Dark Side?

I gather from other posts that she is trying to prove them wrong.

The problem is
that no matter what the intent was, this poll put up knowing that people over there would be reading it and laughing at the comments and votes. That wasn't disclosed anywhere. That kind of thing bugs me.

Leave her alone, let it be. Take it in stride and move on. I'm one to talk, after berating 1060, I realize the error of my ways however, my words of anger only encourage such insanity.

Leave it be.

Julie,
not to argue, but many poll questions here border are ridiculous.

Just look at the manager list that Al put up.  It was funny as hell, but ridiculous.

I think we all need to take a step back and relax.  IMHO, it was not that big of a deal.  Unfortunately, since Chuck was involved, it may be harder for you to let this go....

There's nothing to relax about.
I'm not all worked up or anything. I just felt like it needed to be pointed out that the entire diary had an ulterior motive--and that more people were involved in it than just sparkles. That's all. I'm not mad, I'm not upset (well, Chuck calling me profane names upset me, but whatever). I'll live.

by Faith plus 1 on Jun 19, 2006 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nope.
I have to defend myself for defending the site.

Chuck, gaius, NO ONE forced me to do this.  My brain  started all the nerve impulses to put up this poll.

This is how it all came about.  I read CCD's comment about checking the 'lemmings' and our thoughts about D-Lee coming back.  Gaius then had his 'fantasy' comment which I totally disagreed with.  Then CCD had another comment that had to do with repetition, so that is how I thought of a poll.  I don't think anybody here wants to be lied to again. I didn't think I was going to do it at that point, I just threw it out there as proof that I could get to prove them wrong about us.

Then, Chuck posted the options and said that #3 would win.  I thought that was VERY inaccurate, so  I wanted to prove him and everyone wrong. I didn't tell anybody on 1060 I was going to do it(although it was probably assumed), and I didn't reference to the thread over there because I didn't think it was necessary. So, I posted it during a commercial break during the game, and then I left to the movies.

This was not to make fun of anybody.  It was an honest question that I knew the answer to, and I just needed proof.  If there is anybody that needs to be attacked for the poll it's me.

Sparkles, if that is your real name,
if you meant no harm, fine.  I have yet to see any mean streak in any of your posts (unless they all have been posted in jest, in which case YOU are the genius).   However, it took me ten seconds to figure out that this was a joke those guys wanted to play.  I think I need to purchase a large number of board games, as these guys REALLY need to get a new hobby.

To all BCB folks offended, let it go.  Giving them attention only encourages them.  Recipeing them counts.  It might be hard not to (and I am not always good at doing it), but my mom was right when she said that all they want is attention.  If you ignore them they go away.

That does not, however, mean that MotherChucker gets to use aggressive derogatory terms about people (I'm not repeating it -- go there if you want to see it).  If he, or anyone else, does it here, I believe all BCBers must call that kind of behavior out.  That is more than just a simple joke from someone whose life is so barren they feel the need to throw names at another Internet board (made up of people who are fans of THE SAME TEAM as them).

Maybe I should explain...
my reasoning on that too.  As you guys can see, most people don't like to be lied to.  I knew that was going to happen, and that's why I didn't see this as making fun of anybody because the results would be in our favor.
Cubbie Blue will always sPaRkLe in my eyes, but please stop losing. PLEASE!

spark, I ain't mad at ya
and the "if that is your real name" was just a joke.

I just think that it is bizarre that there are people over there mad at fans of the same team as them -- not the people we all hate who will pay $15 for a beer just so they can go to "Wrigley Park" -- but actual, knowledgeable fans of the same tean.  I just cannot figure it out.

Al,
is a big boy with his own opinions.

IMHO, he created this blog so he can share his thoughts with others.  By doing that, his opinions are open for discussion.

I know the folks over at 1060 can be "intense", but their opinions are just as valid as Al's.

Not knowing Al, I would hope that he would agree that by creating this site and encouraging discussion, his views are out there for debate and at times, arguments.

Agree
"his opinions are open for discussion".

And everyone's opinions are also open to criticism. And with the blind optimism that permeates this site at times, the criticism is warranted. Maybe some of you should be a little more careful with your words if your not able to handle it.

I agree
everyone's opinions, and posts, are open to criticism. Including yours, mine, and sparkles'. Unfortunately, the legitimate criticsm of some of the things posted on this site tends to get buried when Chuck is over there calling me the "c-word."

Also, the criticism should be accurate. The fact is that there is a huge segment over here that agree with a lot of what Chuck and Gaius have to say about this organization, the manager, and the players, so I'm unsure why we are all lumped in a "Care Bears."

Good God
This is a freaking blog, not a knitting circle, children.

In the grand scheme of things, nothing said here will effect any of our lives whatsoever.  It's just a fun outlet to talk about the Cubs. Y'all act like middle schoolers when you let people like Chuck and gaius rile you up....do you honestly care what two monkeys sitting in their basements typing away to upset you because they have nothing else to do in their lives REALLY think about you?

Chat about the Cubs, don't chat about the Cubs.  Be positive about their future, be negative about their future.  Doesn't matter....just quit the moaning and worrying about what other people think.
