No Cubs Game....Rocket, anyone?

Being that today is an off day for our underachieving Cubbies, I was curious to see if anyone else is watching any baseball.  Clemens returns on ESPN tonight, and regional baseball "should" be available to most people:  WSox-Cards, Mariners-Dodgers, Braves-Jays. I personally am flipping between Orioles-Marlins (and much to my chagirn, CP just made a nice diving catch) and Rocket's return.

Any thoughts?

I can't get it
Some weird black-out situation with my cable.

Good news is that I can get the Iowa Cubs game.  They are playing the Omaha Royals and are up 2-1 on Luis Montanez's 2-run HR.

No Lee.  Announcers said he may show up this weekend but it has not been comfirmed yet.

Is Cubs-Royals..
..as bad in AAA as it would be in MLB?

It appears so
Pie clears the bases with a triple.  4-1 I-Cubs.

Here's one..
..the broadcast just mentioned that in the NL, the Cubs are first in infield hits with 80.  Weird.

Well
we are last in SLG %, so I guess it makes a little sense.

Clemens looks
rusty and is losing 2-0 after five innings!  This is not surprising as nobody ever starts pitching in June unless they have been injured. I think he will turn out to be a big bust.  Last year he got very poor run support and this years team does not look as good as something is missing.

Burnett is also losing 2-1 @ Atlanta after six innings. He is a good example of being over used at a young age going on the DL eight times! Both he, Beckett, Pavano have all paid the price pitching for McKeon when they got to the WS.  So Dusty isn't the only one that has ruined a good pitching staff by his over use.

McKeon was just used to watching....
...Cy Young throw so many pitches and innings every game.

Yeah, but
If the Cubs had won in 2003, I think we'd be complaining a lot less about what happened to Wood and Prior.

I'm not completely up to date on Beckett's injury
history, but aren't most of his DL stints blister related?  That's not really a usage injury.

yeah
Beckett has blister problems bc of the way he holds/throws the ball.

Well that,
and not being able to form a proper callous.

The Marlins..
..just rallied back from a 4 run deficit in the 9th to tie it up.  What makes it even sweeter is that they got 2ER off Hawkins in ^9th!

WOW
St Louis gets swept by CWS losing 1-0 on a one hitter, a homer to Thome.  That has to be the ultimate heart break game. I wonder how many times that has happened before?

You had to figure...
... a low-scoring game was coming after those two blowouts.

I'm watching...
Liriano pitch.  He and Johan are going to kick some butt for quite a few years.
Cubbie Blue will always sPaRkLe in my eyes, but please stop losing. PLEASE!

Oh My god..
..Miguel Cabrara just got a hit on an INTENTIONAL WALK PITCH and drove in the leading run in the top 10th for the Marlins.  I've never seen that happen...man, this game is gonna be all over sportscenter.

Incredible.
Yeah, that was an incredible play. I am so glad that didn't happen against the Cubs.

I am really, really starting to dislike the Marlins. Reaching Cardinals levels....

As a Cubs fan, The 2006 season will be remembered by me as....the first that I could buy Old Style cans with Cubs logos on them....

Maddux/Clemens
Figured this was appropiate place as any to ask...

With the way the rotations for both teams look right now, anyone know if it's possible we could get such a matchup again over the holiday weekend?

The Road to Omaha. 2006 College World Series starts 16 June

by sanantonecub on Jun 23, 2006 7:50 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Maddux...
... should wind up pitching on Monday against the Brewers. That'd give him his next start after that, on Saturday, July 1 vs. the White Sox, and thus he'd miss the Houston series.

Clemens will throw again on Tuesday in Detroit. The Astros have an off-day next week, which the Cubs don't.

Depending on what they want to do with their rotation, he could either pitch the following Sunday vs. the Rangers, or they could hold him back for the home game vs. the Cubs on July 3.

by Al Yellon on Jun 23, 2006 8:32 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Posssible but unlikely After AS too
Um Ok I think about these things especially since
I will be coming in. Maddux will most likely start
the 2nd game after AS break which is July 15.
IF the Cubs pitching is still decimated he COULD
face Clemens on the 20th but that means the Cubs
go right after AS break with 4 man rotation.
Clemens will most likely pitch on July 20 as unless
Houston is also going with a 4 man rotation that would
be the spot for their  # 1 pitcher
