Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Who jinxed Carlos, me or my father

So not five minutes ago, I came home from work and looked up cubs.com to see Carlos had a no hitter through seven.  Immediately I rush downstairs, instinctively knowing that ESPN is showing the feat in the bottom of the eighth.  I tell the family what's happening (they all just finished watching Ice Age--good thing I was working!) and plop down in front of the TV.

Before anything happens, even before a single pitch, my father says, "Just watch, he's gonna give up a hit right now."

The very next pitch the Astros batter grounds one through a hole on the right side.  I start yelling and point the finger at Dad, who points the finger right back at me.  His logic is that I announced the fact and turned on the TV; my logic is that he's a bigmouth.  WHO'S TO BLAME, CUB NATION????????????????????

Viva la Zambrano!

That's what you get...
is what my husband said to me after I made him turn to ESPN thus disrupting his Space Race program on the Nat'l Geographic Channel.

as an act of pennance....
you must take 50 lashings...seriously though, I'm just glad I am not blame this time. Last year I saw Big Z pitch in person 5 times and he lost 4 times.

Mark & I were watching.
Even he knew not to say anything. And he's ten.

Your dad is to blame
I have to say I was impressed by Len and Bob not saying a thing about the no hit bid until it was over.  I turned it on around the 5th inning and didn't hear a thing.  God knows Tim McCarver would have blabbed about nothing else.

On another note
This whole "came within 5 outs" theme that has been going on for a while now with our favorite team is starting to kill me.  Oh well - I gues 8-0 will cheer me up.  Great game on both sides of the plate Z!

I think...
...there might actually be something to this. I wonder if it isn't the Cubs' unluckiest out of the ballgame....like a witching hour or something.

by FukudomeAtLarge on Jun 6, 2006 8:24 AM CDT up reply actions

I think it was ESPN
It happened right after they switched over from the Yankees/Red Sox.

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure Joe Morgan may have had a hand in it as well...

Agreed
And I'm not one to start rumors, but I have reason to believe that he is behind the outrageously high gas prices as well.  I'm just sayin...

Don't forget
Global warming too. Morgan's got his hand in that.

And...
... while we're at it, I think Morgan is responsible for all the injuries to the Cubs pitching staff...

My grandfather ran
a dry cleaning business in dallas in the 60's and he met Joe Morgan one fall day. And let me just say, he had some grass stains that were, shall we say, knoll-ish...

That's actually
where he got the idea for Moneyball.

No, wait, he didn't write that... who did again??

by Sarah Hope on Jun 6, 2006 9:19 AM CDT up reply actions

What?
Joe Morgan didn't write Moneyball? I thought he wrote that, Pride and Prejudice, Roots, and the Bible!! I swear he told me that as he was poking a funky looking doll of Mark Prior with a needle...

No,
but he did write this little gem...

ya know...
I think I just felt my IQ drop a couple of points. Something about thinking about Joe Morgan makes me dumber....
