Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Really Mark, Again?

Stop me if you've heard this one before,

Prior is back on the DL

I don't know if I should laugh at the fact the Heckler was spot on, or cry at yet another hope dashed.  Although each time he comes back my hope level is a little lower than the last time.

And does this mean we have to suffer through some more Rusch starts?

Bring up Hill
and let him get pounded or learn to pitch in the majors.  He has nothing more to learn in the minors.  Sink or swim.

Did his Laminitis flare up again?
Or maybe it was his Vagisitis...he has so many things wrong with it's hard to keep his ailments straight.

The bright side
The 3 game winning streak prior to the ASB, saved some coaching jobs.  And I don't root for the cubs to lose, but with this terrible starting rotation of Maddux, Z, Marshall, Marmol, and Rusch; maybe some changes will occur fast?

I don't know, I was looking for a glimmer of hope.

Isn't this the same "injury" Pujols had? If so, he was out for a month?  If that's the case, the cubs should just shut down Prior for the rest of the year.

Next Year
As many problems as this team needs to address in the offseason (or perhaps before the trade deadline), signing an above average starting pitcher who can stay off the DL has to be at the top of the list.

perhaps a phone call to mr k. williams...
to offer an eyre and a howry for a vazquez? worst that can happen is laughter, and a hang-up.

During the telecast...
..Steve Stone that he spoke to Hendry about the possibility of trading Eyre or Howry....Hendry said that he spent a lot of time trying to fill the hole in the bullpen and that he has done that with those two.  He said there is NO WAY that he would trade either of those two.  He went on to say that Hendry (right or wrong) doesn't see this team being that far off....Hendry said the moves would be minimal....It looks like his evaluating wasn't very successful.

Re
That's because Hendry's blind to where his strategy has failed him.

Hendry built the Cubs skewed heavily toward pitching.  He absolutely needed a healthy Wood and Prior to offset the lukewarm offense, and had he gotten it, all it would take from the offense is career-average performances.

But now, his strategy lies in ruins.  This means if he's only going to fine-tune the team, not only does he have to find a couple APBA A-rated pitchers between now and 2007, his core offensive players all need to turn in above-career-average performances.

Ain't gonna happen.  The Reds have been too offensive-skewed, and they're correcting that.  It's time for the Cubs to stop relying on their pitchers throwing 2-hit shutouts and beef up the offense so there's more balance between what they're scoring and what they're giving up.

Zito and/or Schmidt
would work.

by colossus @ Bleed Cubbie Blue on Jul 14, 2006 11:46 AM CDT up reply actions

Though
I would take a gamble on Schmidt, I don't think the Cubs will be going after any pitchers with documented arm troubles anymore.  I'd like to think they've learned their lesson by now...
One day, the dream will come true.

Does this mean that
Wood will reallly be traded for baseballs?

With Hendry's negotiating skills, I wouldn't be surprised.

Prior's a joke.
Bring up Guzman.

Unfortunately, ol stubborn ass, Hendry, will go to Rusch again.  Guess he's determined to trade this bum for something.

by CubFaninCA on Jul 14, 2006 12:15 PM CDT reply actions

There will be a trade soon
hence why Theriot was brought up instead of a pitcher.  Is Walker moving?  Could it be something bigger?

by colossus @ Bleed Cubbie Blue on Jul 14, 2006 2:38 PM CDT reply actions

Nonsense.
TheRiot was brought up because even Jim Hendry is smart enough to see that you have to have more than 3 players who can play 2nd and SS on your roster if your manager insists on substituting for one of them during the game.  If you don't have the fourth one, then in the case of an injury after the substitution you are stuck with Mabry at SS.

And, with the day off, they don't need the fifth starter for a while.   In truth, they should send Murton down so he can get some AB's.  Something he's not going to get very many of for the rest of the season.
