Sosa looks to return "for the kids"

Must be a slow news day, but this is front page material on ESPN.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2524132

I believe I remember similar news reports earlier this year, but find it hard to believe he'll have many MLB teams giving him a look.  He'd be a hell of a sideshow for some Japan team though.

He's still up to his usual politik:

"Many people, including kids, asked me why I wasn't playing anymore during the trip. That's why I'm not going to retire yet," said Sosa.

Ahh sammy...always there for the kids.

The right offer???
The article stated that he just bought his own plane.  He obviously doesn't need the money to retire on. If he wants to play he should take any scrap thrown his way because there won't be much interest now that he is a year older and probably out of shape.
The definition of insanity is repeating the same actions over and over and expecting a different result.

Yabbut
the cork will balance out any loss of muscle tone he may have suffered during his hiatus from MLB.

What a joke.
All he got was a non-guaranteed offer from the Nats this spring. And he thinks he'll get something MORE than that in 2007?

Think again, Sammy.

Sammy will...
...be back next year. He's only 12 hr shy of 600 and that number will get him in the hof. He's not Bonds in the sense that with Sammy, anything(steroids) he's done is just speculation.

Yabbut....
...did you see the post above yours? How does a year off and that much older help him get any kind of an offer?

by BeerCub on Jul 19, 2006 9:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Speculation or not...
... numbers or not, the decision is up to the voters, who are sportswriters. If they decide not to vote Sosa (or McGwire, or Bonds, or Palmeiro) in, then they don't get in.

Incidentally, if Bonds is indicted and convicted, I wouldn't be surprised if the HoF bans him. They can do that -- they are a private institution not subject to MLB rules.

Which would you rather have
in RF? A steroid-riddled Gladiator, or The Strap?
Not a huge fan of The Strap, but he's a huge improvement over The Gladiator.
