New team interested in Walker

Over at Our favorite Site they say that the Mariners are interested in Walker to platoon with Eduardo Perez. Now they just aquired Perez from the Indians for a triple A SS that John Sickels had rated as a B. We should be able to get similar if value for Walker. Looking at the what the Mariners have in their system maybe we could get 2 C+ prospects like Shin-Soo Choo and Michael Wilson for him.

I want
Shin-Soo just because of his name.

I saw Choo play...
a few years back in A ball for the Wisconsin Timber-Rattlers.  He was a fun player to watch.  He might be the kind of fast, toolsy player that the current administration would go for.  I don't think that anyone projects him as a starter on a good club, but his plate discipline and power would be an improvement over the Angel Pagans of the world.  Seattle doesn't seem to think that he can play center, but it's been too long since I've seen him in person to comment.  It's hard to believe that he couldn't meet or exceed the current Cub defensive standard at any outfield position.

As of this afternoon...
...Detroit was the favorite to land Walker and after the way Dustbin has been treating him, I'm sure he's ready to go.

Why not steal Rafael Soriano away from them?

If they could trade Walker to the Tigers..
It would be ideal....they aren't going to nab Humberto Sanchez for him, but that farm system is amazing.

Hollimon
Love to see what it would take to land Mark Hollimon, would undoubtedly be more than just Walkah.

Todd Walker
isn't going to net much more than Scott Williamson did in trade.  Certainly no team is going to hand the Cubs a top 10 prospect for Walker.

What if...
... it were, say, Walker and Wuertz?

You realize that one of Wuertz or Aardsma will have to be sent down or traded when Hill is activated on Thursday. Aardsma's not going to be dealt, but Wuertz has trade value.

by Al Yellon on Jul 25, 2006 2:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Michael Wuertz
Hard to envision Wuertz fitting into a stellar bullpen situation in Detroit.  Maybe Todd Walker and Wuertz can be packaged to Oakland for something.  I betcha anything Jim Hendry likes Jay Payton (which sorta makes me want to cry).

Plus, one thing the Tigers have is pitching
and a lot of it...I don't think they would really have much desire for Wuertz with Fernando Rodney, Todd Jones, Joel Zumaya, etc....

But, Mike is right again....
I don't see Walker being traded for much more than a bag o' balls. He's not the impact type player teams are looking for before the deadline. He's a stop gap at best.

by TheBeerBaron on Jul 25, 2006 4:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I was thinking used infield rake,
but if you think Walker can net a box of balls that's even better.

Oh, but you're right, let's just trade Walker for a bag of crap.  No point discussing any potential trades on a baseball message board.
