Ryan Harvey blows up!

As I posted on my site, Ryan Harvey had a fabulous game tonight.  Going 4-5 with 4 HRs and 6 RBIs ain't too bad is it?  It's a good way to give a boost to your numbers.  Harvey is still just hitting .234 but now has 16 HRs with 66 RBIs on the season now.

Here's the box score

I hate reading fillers, but this has to be posted as a new diary...

Must have
faced a pitcher who threw nothing but fastballs.

Did you look at the box score?
He hit them off 3 different pitchers.

God
I was just being facetious.

But Harvey has not demonstrated an ability to hit a breaking ball.  And Tuffy Rhodes hit 3 HR in a game off of Doc Gooden, and that was hardly a sign that he was going to be a star (at least on this continent.)

Good for Ryan.  I hope he has several more games like this.  But he's still got "bust" written all over him.  One game does not a turnaround make.

You're right
his BA an K/BB ratio is terrible. However he is only 22 and missed the 2004 year with a knee injury so maybe someone can get him to cut down his swing and make more contact brfore he becomes another 1st round pick gone into the illustrious book of flops.

Knee Injury?
I saw him in Boise in 2004.  He had 257 PAs in Boise in 2004  He didn't miss 2004 with a knee injury.

What I saw in Boise in 2004 was a big, strong guy with a huge looping swing and absolutely no idea where the strike zone was.  He was also completely befuddled by breaking pitches.

Now I admit I'm no scout and I also admit the guy is young with enough time to turn it around and develop.  I also admit I haven't been following his career that closely since 2004.  But the stats I've seen since do not encourage me.

By the way, I'm heading back to Boise in two weeks and I will see the Hawks again.

i think
he was drafted during the 2003 season and missed that season with the knee injury. i saw him in spring of 2004 and he looked absolutely awful. he was, by far, the worst hitter there. he fouled every single pitch into the top of the cage. i decided that if he ever made it to the big league, i should give up my career and try out for the cubs, becasue ANYONE could make it if he could.

He did play in 2004
but missed all of 2003 because of injury and began late in 2004 due to that same injury. Sorry for the misdirection.

I envy your trip to Boise. Love seeing the minor leaguers and just enjoying the game at that level. If you're there, I'd be interested in getting feed back on Joseph, Papelbon and Colvin. However, I'd not be surprised to see Colvin jumped to Peoria by then. He's been on a tear lately after a horrible start.

He did battle hamstring injuries
last year in Peoria and missed a couple of weeks early in the season, IIRC.

His last HR
came with 2 out in the 9th. It was a 3 run HR and Daytona won 10-9. Wow. The HR's came off of 3 different pitchers.

Harvey's only 21
He'll never be a triple crown candidate.  But if he keeps driving in runs, he could be a servicable OF/DH in the majors.  He's averaging an RBI a game over the last year and a half.

He's a milb.com
coverboy today with an article.  The 4-HR game is the first in FSL history.
