Cuban Star Yuliesky Gourriel Defects

Over at MLB trade rumors they say he has defected to columbia. If anyone watched this guy this spring during the WBC he tore it up. He is only 21 and can play 2B and 3B. How nice would it be for the cubs to throw a ton of money at him and sign him. I know he probably will go to the yankees or someone else would flash more money but for once I would love to see the cubs take a chance and go get him.

I'd be puzzled...
... as to why the Yankees would want him -- they already have a pretty good 2B in Robinson Cano.

OTOH, if they DO sign Gourriel, maybe the Cubs could pry Cano away from them.

That's asking too much
from Hendry

Because we have an incompetent
assbag as a GM who will make a token run at him, but will fail to offer the requisite signing bonus.  Please refer back to one month ago's run at Francisco Pena.

maybe
he is the answer if we can trade ramirez in the next couple days.

that would be pretty exciting--get santana and kendrick for ramirez, then the cuban for third.

I do not want...
... to trade Ramirez at all.

But if he does go to the Angels, the talks BEGIN with Brandon Wood.

by Al Yellon on Jul 29, 2006 8:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd rather
have Kendrick than Wood, so the Angels could toss him at us instead of Wood.
