What think of Len and Bob?

Star-divide

Chet Coppock on radio tday talked about how Len K.doesn't seem passionate enough--enough of a "homer'' in other words. He guested with him recently and they did rock n roll trivia (a LK fave apparently) with Kasper winning.

Overall I enjoy listening to them and BB, despite stating the obvious at times, brings good insight. I was a Stone (and of course a Harry) fan so it's taken some time to get used to them.

I think Kasper is just so relentlessly cheery even when he criticizes the team it doesn't seem harsh in tone, which is prob. OK. Brenley can get on them at timesfor fundamental mistakes.

Kasper loves to drop in statistical tidbits and occasional personal anecdotes a la Vin Scully but he's no Scully--just a nice pro doing a nice job.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I won't get into the radio guys Pat is excellent, Ronnnie is Ronnie....I think overall the Cub team is doing a decent job during a dreary season of making it entertaining.

Dan Pleasac of Comcast sports studio started slow and slightly inarticlate as are many ex-jocks. He loves to chatter on but has been pretty harsh lately on the Cub team and its performance. As was/is Stone yesterday in a radio interview here locally on the Score. They seem to think the Cubs have a major rebuilding project ahead of them.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

I like both LK and BB.
I also like Pat and Ron but I watch the Cubs on TV most of the time so I don't listen to them as much.
I loathe AJP even more now!!

I Think
Len and Bob are ok, but I haven't had many opportunities this season to watch games on tv because I live in DC now.  So i'm pretty biased towards Pat and Ron. on a side note, what's with all  four broadcasters having three letter names?

by Strickland843 on Jul 4, 2006 3:02 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Simulcast
I wish Pat and Ron were simulcast on TV as well as radio.

While Len is very much a professional. .
I do wish he would be a little more emotional at times.  Len could use a better home run call, and it seems like up or down, the broadcast can get boring from time to time.  I do enjoy Bob Brenly's analysis, espicially lately as he has been throwing caution to the wind in his criticism of the team.
Ernie Banks? The Cubs will shine in '69! Let's play two! (from the movie "Opportunity Knocks")

Cubs need to
get Stoney back in the announcer booth at any cost. That was a huge mistake...

by airweino on Jul 4, 2006 4:05 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not that...
the Cubs are not prone to mistakes....

they;re ok
just kind of boring. they had a special color guy, and they let him go.

Pat and Ron
Pat and Ron are just fantastic.  I also like Len and Bob, but Pan and Ron are simply great.  I did have a question.  How much longer does Patrick's contract go?  I hope he stays for many more years.  Anybody know?

by cubfanwill on Jul 4, 2006 4:37 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hughes is a lifer
I'm sure he'll be cubs radio voice for many years to come MW guy can't see him going east to NY...I wish he had a better partner but he does a sensational job of making it a fun listen with Ronnie for all his flaws (and lack of analysis being current with other teams and players, etc.)...not to bash Santo but I find him very lacking in this area as do many Cub fans...wish they could bring back Mark Grace somehow!!

Maybe BB will get nod to manage before the end of season I think he'd do better job than DB.

by writerinwrigley on Jul 4, 2006 4:44 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

you cannot possibly
have ever heard Grace do color commentary AND want him to come to replace Santo. The two are mutually exclusive. He's one of the worst color guys ever, despite being a very colorful personality as a player.

by tomas21 on Jul 4, 2006 5:48 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes but
Santo is the worst color guy ever.  Ever.  In any sport.  He adds nothing to the converstion.

But he is entertaining.

by pwhalen on Jul 4, 2006 8:06 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Thank you...........
.........for stating the facts, although I'm not sure I can find Santo entertaining.

It infuriates me when so-called Cubs fans point to Santo's "passion" and "love" for the Cubs as a reason for him being in the booth.

If that was the sole criteria for the job, then ANY ONE OF US could be in the booth next to Pat.

The guy doesn't even know the players on his own team, let alone those on the other side.  He is, without question, the biggest waste of $$$$$ on the TribCo payroll, Glendon and Neifi included.

I had
much the same reaction when Harry Caray was still here. I thought he'd long past his prime as an announcer and was kept just because fans thought he was entertaining at butchering guys names. I'm sure I'll get skewered for this, but I wish the guy would have never come to the Cubs. Ronny at least played for the Cubs. Caray worked for the evil Cards and Sox!

by wicubfan on Jul 5, 2006 12:01 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Steve
Stone needs to be back in the booth and I think he wants to as soon as dusty is gone. And yes there should be a spot for Grace somewhere, anywhere.
I've always liked Pat and Ron on the radio, I listen a lot during the day games at work. That said, Ronnie's sucking up to Dusty got old a long time ago. The Fine Manager of the Chicago Cubs blah blah blah, knock it off already.

by draftday on Jul 4, 2006 5:07 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Let's be fair here.....
Santo isn't a "broadcaster".  He's like having a mascot or your goofy uncle in the booth.

by Peoria Matt on Jul 4, 2006 7:14 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Santo win or lose..
..loves this team and all of it's fans.  Through thick and thin, which is a lot more than I can say after reading most of the comments posted on here lately.
vote santo for h.o.f.

So
should all criticism of the Cubs cease?

by Peoria Matt on Jul 5, 2006 6:22 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Tell you the truth
no need anymore, everyone familiar with the team whether they are in some form of denial or not has embraced this teams ineptitududes.

OK -- here's the deal
1) Stone ain't comin' back unless Tribco sells
the Cubs, so don't even give that a thought

2) Santo is a 'fan' not a broadcaster, so you
can't really compare him to -- anybody

3) Mark Grace is, most possibly the WORST color
man in MLB, and drags Thom Brennaman's stature
   down as a decent broadcaster

4) Len and Bren call a fair game. If the Cubs
23 games about .500, we wouldn't be having
   this discussion

5) www.heavethehawk.com
Now, THERE's the Crappiest broadcaster in
   Chicago -- Yee-eee---sss!

I totally appreciate..
Brenheman now, I think he is excellent.  I didn't care for him as a Cub announcer but now I look forward to his games...

Meh
On Bob and Len. They call an okay game, but they are so boring, I just tune them out half the time. Love Pat and Ron. Yes, Ron is a mess, but I can't help it, I love listening to him.

I'd give just about anything to go back to those brief innings when Harry went to the radio and we had Steve Stone and Dwayne Staats in the booth at the same time. Broadcast heaven.

i enjoy the pat and ron show
i don't listen to ron for his insight, i listen because they make the game more entertaining. i think Pat's straight man to Ron's dopeyness is funny, and when the cubs are down like 13,000 to 0, i'd rather laugh than hear about which double switch might work.
