Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

A take at 07

Everyone else seems to have an opinion so why not take a try. We should trade Aramis and his opt out contract before the trade deadline and go after ....Nomar, yeah I said Nomar, the dodgers have a stud 1st baseman down in triple A and may not want to spend the money on him. If we were able to swing that Aram and jacque + parts for Arod trade our infield would then be Nomar, d-Lee Arod and cedeno at 2b not too horrible. Then trade maddux to the brewers(don't get me wrong I am a huge maddux fan but what is he gonna do for us next year) and get lee and sign him to an extension. Next hope that Pierre doesn't garner alot of attention this winter and get him to sign a one year deal. Then hope the reds gm still has a man crush on hill and trade him and murton for kearns to play right. so our line up would be
LF Lee
CF pierre
RF Kearns
1B Lee
2B Cedeno
SS Arod
3B Nomar
C- Barrett
A righty dominated lineup for sure but hell we aint having problems with righties it is the leftys that are killing us
Our pitching would be the tougher to fix a staff that has
1 Z
2 Jason Schimdt-FA
3 prior
4 Marshall
5 best pitcher out of ST
Do I think playoffs are possible with this scenario? i dunno but it would be a hell of a lot better than now

You do realize....
that your post is completely ridiculous, yes?

The brewers aren't going to trade Lee for Maddux, and we aren't going to get A-Rod for what we have. That is just not going to happen, man. Come back when you aren't talking fantasy baseball.

Wait a sec
Besides the kearns thing these all come from published reports and hear say to this web site. If I am in fantasy land there are a helluva lot more people on this site here that are with me. I just through out an idea

your post.......
makes no sense at all. the brewers could still win the division they are only 3 n a half games back. arod? why do you want a-rod his contract would handcuff us just like steroid sammy's. there is no way the reds gives up kearns. they would have gone from having too many outfielders to too few. and jason schmidt? he had a few good years. how about barry zito? him and marshall go  2 and four and we have ballance in our rotation. and we need a second baseman. and nomar? haha!!!!!
hey, hey, cubs win.

re
he had a few good years? the last six have been great compared to what we are currently getting and don't bring zito into this he has only had 1 1/2 good years and isn't going to leave the coast

by Lablover on Jul 6, 2006 12:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Sammy's contract wasn't a handcuff....
....until his production fell off a cliff and he wasn't worht the money.

A-Rod show no signs of slowing down, in fact he should be near 700 HR's when he's only 35.

That's worth bank.

Besides the obvious - Go Irish.

Ah, youth
Once upon a time when I was I child I too liked to take out ol pencil and paper and draw up fantasy rosters.  I'd pretend Cub garbage could be spun for other team's grade A talent in trades and that every premium free agent on the planet was itching to sign with the Cubs in a manner that nicely preserved payroll integrity.

It's nice to dream.  Then you grow up.  Reality bites, just like the current Cub management team.

i like the kearns idea
whoever said lablover was crazy...is crazy, if in fact the reds gm does like hill a lot, hill and murton is a pretty solid trade package for austin.  interesting thought, i like it, they have always needed pitching and have plenty of power, meanwhile, we need more power but have a few young arms to deal.  i applaud you lablover for this trade scenario.

When I think about Kearns
in a Cubs uni I start to have that feeling in my stomach like the time I heard they were making a sequel to Cruel Intentions.

And no, it's not just because he's a Red.  He's just a little whiny punk.

I like Kearns...
... but if you really think the Reds would take Hill and Murton for him, you are fooling yourself.

by Al Yellon on Jul 6, 2006 4:43 PM CDT up reply actions

why...
...do you think so Al?  Hill is pitching better than most any AAA pitcher, and while no one here seems to think he's any good, every scout sees something different.  If the reds really do like hill, like the original poster said, then he would have a lot of value to them based on his AAA stats.  Also, murton is no slouch, he did great in AA last year and did great in his time in the bigs last year as well.  His plate discipline is something that Kearns doesn't have, he's younger, and will be cheaper and if the Reds want to compete they are going to need pitching to do it.  I really think it is a fair trade and welcome the reasons why it isn't.

by kylejo on Jul 6, 2006 5:36 PM CDT up reply actions

To Clear it up
When I said the reds liked Hill was when the past GM (who is now fired) was considering trading Hill for one of the reds OF's straight up. I don't know if it is true now but at one point it was.
Al, if they don't want Hill then why not Wiliams or Guzman. Or how about Hill, Willams/Guzman and Murton for that matter. Sure one might come back and bite us on the ass but trading three smaller parts for one working part would be a good deal. Another name that hasn't been said is Aardsma I think trading him would be a mistake because he has shown potential but if him in a package brought back ML talent then why not.

by Lablover on Jul 6, 2006 7:53 PM CDT up reply actions

No Jason Schmidt
Jason Schmidt is going one of two places...either Seattle, which he has mentioned in a few recent interviews as a place he'd like to play, or staying in San Francisco.  The chances of him being a Cub are slim at best.

Of course, they are probably better than a Murton+Hill for Kearns trade that was suggested.

These kind of posts are fun, but this is completely unrealistic.

by SiValleyCubFan on Jul 6, 2006 1:36 PM CDT reply actions

please explain to me
how a team needing pitching, the reds, who is interested in a prospect, hill, and has an abundance of power would not like a package of rich hill and matt murton for kearns? theyd be getting pitching, a quality hitter with plate discipline in murton, theyd be getting younger as well and would be saving money as kearns is going to be, if he already isnt, arbitration eligible and making more money than murt or hill. the trade makes a lot of sense

stay away from nomar!
He'll get hurt as soon as he returns. f him!

Kearns
I'll give you credit, while I don't know the Reds interest in Hill, acquiring Kearns at least seems in the realm of possibility.  A lot better than some of the trades for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis I've seen here.

As for your other options, I don't expect the Cubs will get A-Rod or Lee as I don't think either are moving this year.  We'll have to see if the Cubs would spend the FA money for Lee (watch for someone like Anaheim).

I don't have a feeling on Schmidt (or Zito) other than at least one (or both) will end up with a New York team.

Seriously guys,
just say no to Kearns.  You think Prior is a woman?  Just wait - Kearns has his own line of feminine products.

Kearns is a possibility
moreso now that Dan O'brien is gone as the Reds gm.  Krivsky (sp?) at least seems to be willing to deal.  I'm not sure if Murton/Hill would get it done but it's a good start.

I think we have a shot at Lee in the offseason.  If the Brewers fall out of contention and get desperate we might even be able to snag him for next to nothing at the end of the month just to get a leg up.  I doubt that though, I think the offseason is our best chance.

Schmidt is okay but I'd rather stay away from him, too many questions.  Zito would be nice but he'll be overpaid and playing in New York this time next year.

Nomar is a fine player and I'd like to see him do well for the rest of his career, but if I were gm there'd be no way I'd take a chance on him again.  Sorry to say but even now that's he's healthy it's just too much of a gamble to count on him to stay that way.  Haven't we been through that before with him/Wood/Prior?  Maybe as a complimentary player on a good team with an incentive laden contract, but otherwise no.

The same with Pierre, only instead of health being the issue it's production.  If we still need a CF and leadoff hitter, I'd give him a one year contract with performance incentives.  That is provided he picks it up the rest of the year like he's doing now.  Anymore prolonged slumps and someone else can have him, I'd take the draft pick thank you very much.  If he shows that he's through it and gets back to what was expected then fine, I'd take him back.

Even if Nomar is healthy...
... I don't think he has the range to play 1B any more. He will be 33 at the end of this month. His future is as a first baseman. The Cubs already have one of those.
