Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

3, three and III

The Cubs begin their road trip with 3 in Milwaukee, then three in Colorado then finish up in Houston for III. If they could have a great road trip and some how take each series (6-3) then the Cubs would be 53-67.

Rule of thumb if you see a person drowning, throw them a rope don't get to close to them because they'll end up taking you down with them.

The Cubs have been deep under water for some time now. Officially they are not considered drown/dead officially (key word). But like a person in a desperate fight for life against the water the Cubs could start dragging others (teams) that are getting close to them.

Milwaukee
Colorado
Houston
All teams reasonably close to the nearly drowned Cubs. Nothing would be sweeter then spoiling their seasons.

Here's to a great road trip. Go Cubs!

Marmol will set the pace
followed by Zambo tomorrow and then Mark Pr?or. I could see the Cubs do some damage to these guys.
Since the trade of their "Lee" the Brew Crew has stunk. Good time to drag these guys down.

Milwaukees been
playing some poor ball of late.  8-16 in their last 24.

Maybe the Cubs will sweep!

Forget Zito, Soriano, Schmidt & Lee. Its Mulder, Durham & Cameron instead.

True, but they turn into the Yankees
when they play the CUBS.....the CUBS are 12-15 vs. MIL the past 2 seasons.....

I get the feeling
The Cubs are catching the Brew Crew at the right time. C. Lee turned in to Babe Ruth when he played the Cubs, (I'll never forgive the hard slide into T. Walker last year, clean or not!).

Now defanged the Cubs play the shell shocked leftovers.

I never predict a sweep but a series win is more realistic.

It begins with Marmol.

Sweep in Milwaukee
would be pretty sweet. I think it's funny that a 6-3 roadtrip will put us at 14 games under and I am impressed by that. haha, what a season.

I was looking for that comment
Yes it is depressing thinking "wow only 14 games under". Considering the Cubs were 23 games under not long ago, I find it truly amazing.

I predicted the Cubs would have a better half based on the fact that the first half was so bad it would take skill to repeat it.

I just want to see good baseball being played by our team.

Go Cubs

I don't really care what the team
finishes (as long as they don't play good enough to resign Baker, although they probably will anyway) I am mainly paying attention to....

1.) Mark Prior - I want to see him work on his command and start stock piling quality starts. I read that he is working on a new grip for his curveball (that he is still struggling to locate) and I want him above all to STAY HEALTHY to either....
a.) Make sure he'll be as close to "Mark   Prior" as he can.
b.) So he has value to trade (not really likely, but fun to dream)

2.) Rich Hill - Basically for the same reasons, save the health issues. He has stated that he has gained confindence on the big league level and he was locating that curve and making D-Backs and Bucs look plain silly out there. Plus he was utilizing that 4 seem well as a high and inside strikeout pitch.

3.) Angel Pagan - There has to be a reason that the Mets just gave up on the kid that was once labeled the "fastest player on the franchise". He is showing good potential and I would like to see what he could add to this team in either a starting or supporting role.

4.) Carlos Marmol - He has great stuff for a former OF/C, great curve and good fastball. I would like to continue to analyze his development.

5.) Cesar Izturis - He's young, he is a former All Star and a former Gold Glove winner with only a .288 career OBP. I want to see what we have with him for next season as well..

I'll add...
Marshall's return to that list. Will his injury hurt him long term and will he start in the rotation next year?

Also, who is the real Ronny Cedeno?

And you probably have the right order too
Figuring out Prior has to be number 1 for the rest of the year.  Making a decision on Hill is second.

Rebuttal
  1.  Mark Prior.  Dead to me.
  2.  Rich Hill.  I'm not bullish, but must say his last two outings were impressive.
  3.  Angel Pagan.  Roster filler.
  4.  Carlos Marmol.  Love his arm.  The potential is there to be a special pitcher, but we shall see.  Tonight I plan on taking close look at his mechanics (Lord knows Larry Rothschild isn't looking at them).  Hopefully they are sound and we don't have to worry about arm problems ala the situation with so many Cub pitchers.
  5.  Cesar Izturis.  Love him to death.  The best defensive shortstop the Cubs have EVER had and soon to become a fan favorite.  Anything he does offensively is a bonus.  And I happen to believe he will be a decent contributor with the bat.

Rebuttal to rebuttal.
  1. Mark Prior -- still has a chance to resume his career, but the jury's out.
  2. Rich Hill. Do what he did the last two starts for about eight more, and I'll believe.
  3. Angel Pagan. A chance to be a decent 4th/5th outielder.
  4. Carlos Marmol. Great arm, got to throw more strikes, may be better suited to closing.
  5. Cesar Izturis. So far, I haven't seen anything that tells me he's anything more than a younger Neifi Perez. I hope I'm wrong.
