September callups started
As seen on cubs.com:
The Chicago Cubs today activated pitchers Scott Eyre and Sean Marshall from the 15-day disabled list. In addition, Chicago activated Wade Miller from the 60-day disabled list and recalled catcher Geovany Soto from Triple-A Iowa. So, the callups have "sort of" started. Seeing Wade Miller pitch is probably the only thing we have left to look forward to. He has a 62-43 carrer record in 139 starts. If he his healthy, like he has shown in AAA, why is he still not signed to an incentive based contract? I just dont want him to go 4-0 in September and then get signed by the Cards or have to pay much more money for him than we have to. I really want to see Wade in the rotation next year. What does everyone else think?

I don't see the harm in it either.
If he has, bring him to spring training on an incentive-laden deal. Why would this be different than bringing in, say, Ted Lilly?

Why?
FAT JIMMY, STOP SIGNING WORTHLESS PLAYERS TO "LOW RISK" CONTRACTS, SIGN A FEW PLUS PLAYERS AND FILL THE REST OF THE ROSTER WITH PRE-ARBITRATION PLAYERS!!

encouraging call-ups
I like the Soto call-up. That gives us three catchers, meaning much more line-up flexibility. Plus I think Soto has a chance to make the team in 2007. And Iowa still has two catchers on the roster (Kopitzke and Reyes).
I'm guessing with Iowa in playoff contention, that they might be holding Pie and Ryu with the team until Sept 5th or so.

Yabut
The Cubs need at least 4 starting pitchers that will give them near 200 innings a piece next year. Prior is questionable. There are no guarantees, but a team (and especially next year's Cubs team) can't go into another season with too many questionables.

Wood will be coming back as a reliever...

I know that's the
Steve Stone didn't particulary like the idea of Wood being a reliever as he didn't think that Wood can handle pitching 3 or 4 times a week on a regular basis.

Not suggesting
He's finally getting to the point where he can actually throw again. If he can do so and continues to build arm strength, he's worth a shot. But in no way shape or form depend on him or pencil him into a rotation slot. Make it a competition and at the very worst, if Wood does return to the rotation, Miller can be a long guy out of the pen.
