Wouldn't the owners of blogspot
be interested in his actions here? That was the worst excuse for attention that I have ever seen. How could you be a fan of anything and be that bitter? I guess since we all haven't pledge our allegiance to the boycott of everything Trib that he wants.....I for one will not let the counters at his website have any clicks from my computer.

I assume
you deleted G.M.'s account, Al.  Not that I really care a whole heck of a lot, but are you going to delete everything he's ever written here as well?  I think he requested that to be done as well.

I hope that someday you guys will find a way to get along.

One day, the dream will come true.

Now on to more important subjects....
Can Sean Marshall return to his early season form?  Isn't it sad how the only thing meaningful this time of year (baseball-wise, that is) is which young players stand a chance at next year's roster.

I really think
that he's thrown too many innings this year. His command is poor and he has no sharpness to his pitches. I'd expect another bad outing.

Just let him rest this offseason and see how he looks next spring.

I agree
One more start probably won't damage him but at this point I'm not judging him negatively based on how he does.  I wouldn't expect too much at this point.

So you're
equating extortion with a simple legitimate request to delete an account?  I can't believe you made such a comparison.  That's worse than Al comparing the Cubs to theTwins, A's, or Yankees.

by Thunderclap Newman on Sep 26, 2006 3:41 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It was hyperbole,,,, but
why did Al need to jump through hoops for the guy??  Perhaps you should follow Faith Plus' advice and stfu.  You were asked, so perhaps you should obey.

by Thunderclap Newman on Sep 26, 2006 3:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd like to understand
why a reasonable request that was repeated privately a few times was not only not honored, but no explanation was given to the requestor.

by Thunderclap Newman on Sep 26, 2006 3:58 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Come on
Go to the Sun-Times or any other site that allows you to post comments.  Post a bunch and send them an email asking them to delete all of them.

How far will you get?

It was an asinine request.  He is a psychotic individual to waste his time doing something that stupid.  Glad I'm not his wife/girl friend that might want to break up with him.

Can we get back to baseball?

by rlpete on Sep 26, 2006 3:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

"How far will you get?"
I'd at least expect the site to provide a reason why my request cannot be fulfilled.  Is that too much to ask?  If the reasons for refusing the request seemed valid, I'd may be inclined to drop the issue.  But at a minimum, a honest response to the request should have been offered.

by Thunderclap Newman on Sep 26, 2006 4:04 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It's the internet
When did posting on a free site imply some level of customer support or consumer bill of rights?

by rlpete on Sep 26, 2006 5:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yep
you're right and when the asshat proprietor chooses not to fulfill or even fucking respond to a simple request, then he "reaps what he sows".  He loses all right to complain about how someone chooses to use his free website and deserves whatever he gets.

by Thunderclap Newman on Sep 26, 2006 6:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's such a stupid comment
that I can only assume it's made by a stupid person. Who the hell are you to define who's rights you are empowered to take away?
Players win awards but teams win championships.

by tharr on Sep 26, 2006 7:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm not empowered
to take anyone's rights away.  But if you'll read the thread, all I wanted to know was why Al never even FUCKING responded to the request.  It that too much to ask?  For the imperial leader of BCB to step down and answer one of the peasant's simple questions?

It just comical how everyone is falling over themselves to defend Al's handling of this situation.  All he had to do was grant the simple request.  For someone who admittedly hates conflict, you think he would have bent over backwards to fulfill it.  Shit if he just responded with a legit reason or two why the request couldn't be or would be difficult to fulfill, that would have probably been sufficient.  But no, not Al, it's obviously beneath him to respond to Gaius or me.

by Thunderclap Newman on Sep 26, 2006 7:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Whine whine whine
Mommy, he won't answer my question. I'm gonna burn his house down.

Where do you get off with this attitude??
I don't understand? Did someone make you sign up for this blog? Just like email, be careful what you put in print...It could come back to bite you some day. If you don't like it here just go away. Does anyone know how old Gaius and his henchmen are? I think some growing up may be in order.

by LT on Sep 26, 2006 7:42 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hey Gaius
Just go away.  He cancelled your id.

This is a baseball site.  Not who has the biggest.  I can go into any bar on a Friday and Saturday and see your act enough.

by rlpete on Sep 26, 2006 8:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Wait a minute...
I am absolutely shocked that anyone could logically defend GM on this one.  If he had a problem with Al making a profit off of postings here, then he should have just stopped posting.  As someone pointed out, I have never even heard of a site getting revenue from having a data tape full of old blog entries.  They make money from hits or direct hits for the advertiser.

Moreover, what that pedantic, conceited jackass requested was tantamount to spray-painting grafiti on an underpass and then demanding that the City remove it because they were his "words," and he wanted them back.  I would have told him to stuff it, and threatened him with serious recourse if he didn't (there are several ways to stop a jerk like him from spamming--especially one that runs his own blog).

Did he also request that we all immediately forget everything nugget he imparted on this site.  He was right, he is a fool.

Also, on the few occasions I have glanced at his site, I think I saw advertising there (not positive about that).

"My uncle says you've got a screw loose." -- "Your uncle molests collies."

by jcub on Sep 26, 2006 8:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Can't speak for Al
but I can think of at least two inter-related reasons not to cancel user accounts.
  1. If it's just because someone is fed up, well, if they eventually cool down, they can come back and still have the same identity.
  2. By cancelling a user account, you open up the possibility (unless it's coded against it) for account spoofing. In other words, now someone else could try to open up a "gaius marius" account and start posting.

by false cognate on Sep 26, 2006 3:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

then

by Thunderclap Newman on Sep 26, 2006 4:05 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm not playing dumb.
I would just like Al to be honest to all of us about this issue.  But I guess that has about as much of a chance of happening as the Cubs winning the World Series this year.

I don't defend his
method, but his request was simple.  No matter who made the request, it was a valid one and I would still wonder why Al never granted the request nor even responded to it.  I would be asking the same questions of Al, no matter who made the request.

you are welcome here if you don't denigrate the casual fan. There are umpteen degrees of ignorance, and it doesn't equate with intelligence whatsoever. Some choose to dedicate their time with other activities. No reason to ridicule them if they have a life outside the obsession that is the chicago cubs national league baseball team and don't spend the hours researching and reflecting on said subject. You've shown an astute acumen of the game and until recently have demonstrated civil restraint. Please leave it at that instead of bullying those who don't qualify for your exclusive mensa-wannabe club. It reminds me of junior high school. Again, we welcome you, and sometimes need you, but not if you behave in this manner.

by dtpollitt on Sep 26, 2006 3:53 PM CDT   0 recs

Not one sentence but...
GM feels that a majority of Cubs fans do not understand or refuse to acknowledge the depths of ineptitude within the entire Cubs organization.  As such, they continue to condone such ineptidue through purchasing of Cubs tickets, merchandise, and events.  This, of course, encourages the organization to continue on status quo rather than make the required sweeping changes GM and others see as necessary in order to effect a championship team.  This blog and Al in particular are viewed as the mouthpiece and breeding ground of such fans.  Today, Al mocked a previous statement made by GM and that was apparently too much for GM to bear.  I'd say that it's over now, so we can move on, but I fear that isn't the case.
