Maddux speaks out.....so to speak

Interesting comment by Maddux:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0609020070sep02,1,777222.story?coll=chi-sport scubs-hed

Good for him to call out the Cubs horrible play.  Unfortunately, it may seal any possibility of him coming back next year and may further cast a dark cloud over this team to potential free Agents- not that they couldn't see how bad this team is anyway, but to hear, quite possibly, the most respected man in the game, one who rarely dogs anyone, speak so fondly of his former club sure isn't a welcoming to play with the North Siders.  As posted here before by several others, looking more and more like 2008 might have to be our realistic goal.

I saw that too
Dusty is the toothpicked maestro of passive aggressiveness.

hmmm
wonder what fielders that's directed at..
Forget Zito, Soriano, Schmidt, Matsuzaka & Lee. Its Eaton, Kennedy, Wood, Pierre and a backup RH OF instead.

probably
ramirez & walker and whatever bum they had @ 1b after lee got hurt.

Ramirez?
Ramirez is definitely no gold glover, as someone here ridiculously argued the other day, but he was hardly the weak link on infield defense this year. It was mostly Walker's inability to range for any balls that weren't right to him and Cedeno's inability to not make stupid plays. And that was all exacerbated by Mabry/Nevin at first. Ramirez's defense was no worse than "solid", and at times, it was pretty decent (letting a ball bounce off his head notwithstanding).

And...
... don't forget the misplay that Walker made at 1B, in Miami in May, on a ball that Cedeno threw that led to a six-run inning off Maddux.

Derrek Lee would have made that play, and the inning would have been over, Maddux and the Cubs would have still led 3-0, and perhaps won that game.

Isn't that the one
that the Cubs succeeded in getting changed from a hit to an error several weeks later, lowering Maddux's ERA significantly?

That would stick in his mind, all right.

Good for Maddux
This organization has screwed him twice, don't blame him one bit.

And Dusty, just enough already.

Throw out your Gold Teeth and see how they Roll

Oh get over it...
The organization did not screw him over twice.

Once I'll agree wholeheartedly with but not twice.

So at this point...
is it safe to say that Maddux will choose to be inducted into the HOF as a Brave?

by gsblake on Sep 5, 2006 10:37 AM CDT reply actions

It was safe to say that...
... before he left the Cubs. He had his best years there, and won a World Series there, and won almost 200 games there.

I'll bet, however, there will be ten times as many Cub fans as Braves fans at his induction.

Bravo Maddux
Maddux despised playing for this sorry organization for a second round.  You could see it in his face for two and one-half years on the Northside.  Maddux speaks reality, while Hendry wallows in denial.  Aramis Ramirez and Michael Barrett should read between the lines too.  I'd love nothing more than for those two to become ex-Cubs very soon.

Maddux thinks Hendry is an idiot just like he thought Larry Hines was an idiot.

Bravo Greg.  I hope you keep on pitching and get to 350 wins.  And win another richly deserved
World Series.

give me a break...
Maddux did more than his fair share to help deep-six this season and last. After a stellar April he turned in 3 absymal months.

He is equally to blame as the rest of the organization is for failure.

And he would tell you the exact same thing.

And for those waxing romantic over Maddux's renaissance in LA, pay closer attention, the magic of the trade is starting to wear off.

Only 1 quality start out of his last 4.

Maddux does not think Hendry is an idiot
Maddux was justifiably frustrated at how things
turned out but he was definately friendly with Hendry
and a  friend of Barrett's etc.  Don't read too much
PERSONAL into the comments. He loves playing for a winner
and especially a team that can field behind him. The sad
thing is unlike Walker etc he really did love playing in Chicago,
at Wrigley and during the day . Ironically he left both times
for the same reason, to win but at least this time he
wasn't thrown out in stupidity.
