Anyone see the magazine 108?

This is my first diary, so please be gentle!

I was wondering if any of you have seen the new baseball magazine titled 108. It is published quarterly and the first issue came out in the summer of 2006. The first issue has articles about Larry Hisle helping children, Josh Gibson Jr. and his father Josh Sr. and, Mickey Cochrane and how he helped Detroit win a title.

There are columns by Tommy Lasorda, Fay Vincent, Jay Johnstone, and Mike Veeck among others. There is also some short fiction that I have not gotten to yet. There is even an article about "The leadership secrets of Casey Stengel" that promises to be interesting.

I really enjoy learning about baseball "back in the day" and there is a lot of that in this magazine.

If this has already been discussed previously, I apologize.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

You're fine so far...
...though you probably won't get very far with that screenname on the Mets's board.

Wouldn't be caught dead on the Mets board...
except to maybe cause some trouble.

Not that I would ever cause trouble (adjusting halo)!

Football and basketball are just things to do between baseball seasons.

that and since
we have no OBD for today, your diary will probably simply house more madness

is this the new thing
people come here to advertise their product and pretend they are a fan just passing it along?

this is the second time in as many days.

Tomas, I like you, but...
... you are quick to accuse without evidence. I see no evidence of what you say here; if you have it, let's hear it.

I don't think it's out of line to remind you that you were also one of the first people to accuse me of being a "shill" for Tribco, or allowing them to "float trial balloons" through me, also without evidence, neither of which is true.

Please don't do this any more unless you have proof. Thank you.

by Al on Jan 10, 2007 4:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i never called you
a shill, but i said, and sometimes still feel, like you act like you have a conflict of interest. that's all i ever said. stop hyperventilating and stop accusing me of saying things i never said.

You were laboring...
.... and apparently still are, under the misconception that because I wrote three articles for Vine Line, for which I was paid the lordly sum of $180, that I was under some sort of thrall of the marketing department, which is utter BS.

There's no conflict of interest and never was. No one ever told me what to write, and if they had, I'd have laughed in their faces.

In any case, you are 100% wrong in your accusation in this diary. Please be more careful, that's all I ask.

by Al on Jan 10, 2007 6:53 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

$$ 180?
you made more than Muskat deserves to make over a season, and I'm sure she writes more than 3 articles for mlb.com

I have no affiliation with this magazine...
other than being a subscriber. I just thought it would be nice to pass the information along.

Thought that was why we were here.

It is.
I have found a lot of information from this site that I otherwise wouldn't have.

http://www.pandora.com for one.

100% credit to flyball
She posted that in an OBD last week sometime. Maybe the week before. Her suggestion (and I agree): get a station, and only "agree" with songs that are like it. If you want something different, creat a new station.

Then you can do the mix, and pick the different types of stations you want.

I have such stations as East Coast Raps, Dirty South and Angry Girl Rock. I love it.

glad someone else is enjoying it
I love the thing esspecialy at work, doesn't it get better the more you listen and the more your selections get refined, this week has been really strange, a couple Steve Goodman songs even popped up
keeping mediocrity at bay

Steve Goodman.
One of my favorites, truly. I suspect I may be the only one on this site who actually saw him perform live.

it's an awesome site
I've been playing around with it on and off for about six months now. Really cool idea.

I think
The earlier one, for Fathead, was what Tomas was talking about. Since that guy has one diary and no comments, I'm pretty sure he was just passing by.

I can see how this one seems similar, but I believe MetsSuck just came on at the same time. Especially since he just said so below.

I very excite about this upcoming season! Jenqui!

by nextyearcub on Jan 10, 2007 5:06 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe...
... on the first one. But not this one -- I have seen many comments here from MetsSuck.

Again, my point was -- please don't throw out baseless accusations. That just drives me nuts.

by Al on Jan 10, 2007 5:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

aye
that's what I was going to say, metssuck hasn't been around long but I know he's been around.

you mean around BCB.  I wouldn't want any more accusations to fly around....

Any idea why when I try to access pandora.com
my system freezes up? I'm running IE7.  I was able to get it at work using IE6 but not at home.

Any suggestions?

Either...
... use Firefox or get rid of IE7.
