WGN 2004 Tribute Video

Warning, this is for the hard of hearts only, may lead to prolonged crying and nostalgia. I certainly shed a couple tears and laughed a couple times. It was really a great season, and our season until those last couple weeks.

I uploaded this against the terms of YouTube, so don't be surprised if this is gone in a while.

:(

PS. If anyone has the 2003, 2005, or 2006 versions (if they did one) could you upload them or at least email them to me?

That hurt a lot
How the hell did they not win in 2004? Honestly. Here's to hoping this is the year, and maybe seeing Oswalt get plunked/punched along the way.

Yeah I know
That and Dusty Baker's damnable stubbornness as regards using him in the closer role.
ROTHSCHILD!

by Perkins on Jan 23, 2007 8:53 AM CST up reply actions

i was thinking
baker was the reason. he was the one who forced the square peg latroy into the closer role, as well as letting the clubhouse implode aorund him.

by flyball on Jan 23, 2007 9:26 AM CST up reply actions

you
gotta blame some of it on baker but those players that year werent focused. i remember hearing about moises in the outfield flirting wth women instead of watching the game. and of corse sammy and his "jambox" distraction

by tbizzle83 on Jan 23, 2007 9:32 AM CST up reply actions

Don't forget...
... announcer-gate. This was the year of Kent Mercker vs Steve Stone, players complaining about the media, etc. The Cubs were coming down the stretch, just needed to play .500 ball and were focused on everything BUT baseball.

And to think.
All you had to do was go look at the players' parking lot; you'd have found him (if you looked quickly enough).

A few random thoughts...
  1. I hope we see El Tortuga (YES!) fired up like that more than a few times in '07.
  2. Roy Oswalt is a sneaky little bitch, and I'd almost give up the Pierszinski punch to have seen Barrett pop him one instead.
  3. Did anyone else notice those couple flashes of Neifi? I believe that's called "tragic foreshadowing."

By the way...
In related YouTube news, check out Len and Bob doing "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Summertime Blues" from their recent "bash" at the House of Blues.

All apologies if this is a re-post. I don't recall seeing it on BCB previously.

I might never recover from that, and now I hate Johnny Cash. Thanks A LOT.

re: That was terrifying
Aw, come on...I thought Len's deep tenor was quite well-suited for that Cash classic. His dance moves are what terrified me.

And how 'bout the guitar stylings of one Bob Brenly? I haven't seen that many open chords since my "Beginning Guitar" class at the Old Town School of Folk Music.

Hey, Bob, if you're gonna wear the cap backwards the least you could do is wear your old catcher's mask, too!

I didn't have the ball, bitch!

Depressing video, though it reminded me how much I love Michael Barrett - he gets fired up/pissed off so much, and I think it's great.

I agree.
I think his defense is better than people say(or at least not THAT bad), and sometimes people give his offensive play a little too much credit.

This video reminded me of why I still love Prior, and why I will always like him.  That game he was so pumped and happy I will just never forget it.  Prior was ready to go to the playoffs.  That game is what comes to my mind when I think of him.  It is a game I refer to when people(mostly my friends) say Prior looks like he doesn't have any emotion ever.

re: I agree.
Because I spent WAY too much time on YouTube today, here are a couple of Mark Prior videos:
  • This one shows Mark warming up during a 2005 spring training game. It's intriguingly titled "My husband Mark Prior."
  • This one is a brief clip from the 2007 Cubs convention, which some of you may have witnessed in person.
Like the Millennium Falcon being dragged toward the Death Star, I feel myself starting to believe in Mark Prior again. NOOOOOOO!!!!!

I see they found it, Progs ..
.. I've seen it one too many times .. After we last rapped about it, I did look, but just couldn't find it.

What was the key word on that one? I'm too lazy to look, and frankly, I'd rather forget about that year. That last weekend in Wrigley in 2004 was the most painful pilgrimage to the Friendly Confines I've ever had (second only to the weekend we were there when in 2005, the Red Scum took the division).

Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

I also wanted to add that I felt like crying the first time I saw this on TV and Mark Prior was leaning on Dusty.

Don't worry, Sparks .. Cry away
.. because I surely did after watching Mark hang that head low in the dugout. I will give Dusty his due that day. He did what I think every shocked and numbed Cub fan anywhere would have done.

That was probably the last great performance I've seen of Prior up to this day.  An unbelievable effort .. only to end like it did. Yes, let the tears flow, because that was one awful year of promise that slipped through our fingers once gain like sand being given a death grip of desperation.

It was almost too painful to bear. But Next Year IS Here. GO CUBBIES! BELIEVE!

Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

I downloaded it a couple months back when it was on YouTube, and reposted it without any keywords so that hopefully they can't find it, and it'll stay up longer this time.

I have the Superstation version on videotape ...
I taped that also and it has no credits and better audio. I hope to get it digitized one of these days. THAT was truly the most arresting years end review of the Cubs I think I've ever seen. 2004 was .. was .. aiiiii . . . .
